Safety is extremely important for all gleaning events. For the protection of all involved, this disclaimer is necessary. I do not hold the Society of St. Andrew, its Board, members, employees or volunteers liable for any injury, accident or death of myself, my child, or children/youth under my direction during a Society of St. Andrew sponsored gleaning event. Neither will I hold the person(s) who owns and/or operates the farm from which we glean or area in which we recover food, liable for accidents, injury or death during the gleaning event. In addition, photos and videos in which I appear, that are taken during the event may be used by the Society of St. Andrew for news stories, newsletters, reports or any other promotional purposes.

Gleaning Rules
- Remember you are gleaning on another person’s land. Treat it better than your own property. We are guests and we don’t want to abuse the privilege or we may lose it.
- Safety is of utmost importance in gleaning. Be sure to stay in the designated gleaning area as outlined by the Field Supervisor.
- In the field, be sure to listen and follow the Field Supervisor’s instruction. He/she is in charge.
- Glean and park only in those areas designated by the Field Supervisor or farmer.
- Every gleaner or responsible adult, must sign in at every gleaning and have a liability waiver signed for that gleaning or have one on file for the year. Gleaners under 18 years of age must have the liability waiver signed by their parents or legal guardian.
- Children and youth must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
- Check the area before leaving to be sure noting is left behind, including articles of clothing, tools and trash.
- The Field Supervisor may cancel a gleaning at any time if he/she feels these rules are not being followed.
- The Society of St. Andrew reserves the right to take photographs and videos during a gleaning event for news articles and promotional purposes. If the participant prefers not to have their image used, please notify the Field Supervisor at the beginning of the gleaning event.
Gleaning Reminders
- There are no bathroom facilities in the fields, so plan on stopping prior to coming to the farm.
- Please bring plenty of water and cups, if needed for yourself and those in your group.
- Wear close toed footwear.
- Think about your clothing needs in relation to the gleaning -long sleeved pants and shirts for gleaning corn, orchards and squash, hats for shade from the sun and gloves to protect your hands and dress in layers so you will have options depending on the weather and the work involved in gleaning.
- Consider carrying a first aid kit with you, in case of injuries. If you have any allergies or have reaction to insect stings, be sure to have the appropriate medicine with you.
- Consider using sunscreen - even in the spring and winter months.
