Mission Statement

The National and University Library collects, stores and preserves written national cultural heritage of the Slovenian nation and state and enables access to knowledge and Slovenian culture of past and present generations to the residents of Slovenia and other countries.

In cooperation with libraries from Slovenia and abroad, the Library provides access to universal intellectual and cultural heritage to its users and provides assistance in searching, choice, evaluation and use of information resources on different media, in different forms and languages.

With its collections and services, the Library supports teaching, scientific and research processes of the Ljubljana University and other higher school institutions and acts as the knowledge center for life-long learning of the Slovenian citizens, as the promotor of its cultural and educational development and informational litteracy.

With its research, developmental and educational activities in librarianship, the Library actively shapes the Slovenian libary system and contributes to the theoretical and practical knowledge in library and information science.

-HP ProLiant DL360 (Intel Xeon 2.8GHz, 3GB RAM) with Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard edition running IIS 6.0 as web server,

-HP ProLiant DL380 (Intel Xeon 3.4GHz, 4GB RAM) with Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 as development and future dLib.si server, harvester server

New and special features:

dLib.si – Digital Library of Slovenia

New collections on dLib.si:

-Scientific Articles - includes 11 scientific magazines with 700 articles,

-Posters – includes 1.700 posters from 1940-1952.

Itemsadded to existing collections on dLib.si:

-17.000 articles were added to Older articles,

-10.000 photographies were added to Photographs,

-10 maps were added to Maps.

All articles from collections “Old articles” and “Scientific articles” are now accessible/readable via HTML preview and/or OCRed PDF files. Both are also
full-text searchable. Virtual keyboard with special signs was added to dLib.si web portal.

Harvesting and repository

We have successfuly installed Web Curator Tool (WCT) on windows platform and started using it as our main web harvesting front-end.

General search and link services:

Slovenian National Bibliography onlineThe SNB records are based mainly on legal deposit of publications. Records for slovenica, published abroad, are also provided.

Retrospective collection of articles of Slovenian authors from 1797-1945 online. The collection includes bibliographic records and scans of full text articles.

Mreznik – This is gateway to all subscription databases.

EzProxy – allows remote access to subscription databases,

Future projects

dLib.si 2.0 – we are developing new version of our Digital Library portal with new features and with more content.

EoD – eBooks on Demand – it is a project that allows users to order digitisation on demand of any publication whichisnot subject to copyright or copyright expired.

Cooperation with TEL–we have contributed many of our materials to TEL and will continue to do so in future. We are also involved in pilot project on how to connect and/or merge GIS data with metadata and digital content.

DIZZIS– within this project we are developing digital collection of scientific and research publications. The collection will be available throught dLib.si.

SVAROG–this web portal allows publishers to upload digital content for long time preservation.
