“Ideal Island”
Now that you have investigated cultures of the past, your task is to design the ideal culture.
The Model:
Geography/Climate:
ð Using the cardboard and colored butcher paper, create an island in an ocean
ð Give your island at least five geographical features (mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, peninsulas, lagoons, etc.)
ð Give your island at least two ecosystems (desert, wetland, forest, high grassy plateau, low plains, alpine meadows, etc.)
ð Use glue, different colored sand and dirt, and small pieces of colored tissue to make your model as realistic as possible.
The Map:

ð Draw the island on a piece of white art paper
ð Draw elevations and name your culture.
ð Locate and name a capital city, at least two smaller towns, and three scattered outlying villages on your map
ð Include evidence of transportation (roads, waterways, etc.)
ð Include evidence of industry and agriculture (crops, mining, forestry, fishing, etc.)
ð Name the geographical features (Mount Snowy, Winged Desert, Crushing Caverns, Beaky Beach, Claw Crags, Hatchery Harbor, Loft Lake, etc.)
ð Create a Compass Rose
ð Create a Key with a scale, icons for capital city, towns, roadways and waterways, industry and agriculture, and natural resources
The Poster:

ð Create a poster for your culture. Include title and your name.
ð Draw at least one citizen of your culture in traditional dress
ð Draw a flag for your culture.
ð Draw a building or artifact (any item in daily use)
ð Include a description of all fifteen universal elements below.
