Current Events Project
All year we have been collecting current event articles and you have all been waiting to see the purpose. One reason is to keep you aware of what is going on in the world. The second reason is to prepare you for our final current events project! For your project, you will be creating a poster (around 24x32, should not be smaller but can be bigger). On the poster you must include numerous things:
-your region and some facts about it (where located, countries, what it’s known for, etc…)
-major headlines from your region over the past year
-photos of the noteworthy stories
-summaries of the important events that took place in your region this year, and the impact of these stories on the world.
-a timeline of major events/stories
-at least one paragraph of text discussing your predictions for the region in the future
-anything else that relates that you find interesting/important
-a bibliography of any sources (other than the articles) that you used to get information should be included on the back of the poster.
-you must use at least six articles that cover the entire year
Most of this work should and will be done at home. Your research should not be difficult as you should be using the articles you have been compiling all year. While an artistic touch is welcomed, you will be graded on the content of the poster and not the artwork. Many of you have been focusing on a specific country within your region or a problem. If so, this should be the focus of what you include on your poster. If you didn’t analyze one particular place, then just provide a basic overview of what is going on in the region in general. One approach you might want to take is dividing the poster into different sections (have an economy section, a technology section, terrorism, etc…).
The poster is due Tuesday, May 30. I do not care what kind of poster material is used, and if purchasing a poster is a problem please see me to make other arrangements. After the posters are turned in, there will be opportunities to present your work to the class in return for extra credit. More information on this will be provided as we get closer to the due date!
