Dear All,
Your support so far!
There has been much good news this year so far. Many people have become grand parents. As far as new comers to this world are concerned, boys out- number girls. Being precious as well as thoughtful & pretty, girls will be much in demand. Each new addition to the blessed families brings much happiness, joy and a sense of contentment. At such joyous times, people have been kind enough to remember other children and young adults and have continued to support the Trust through regular monthly donations and other ad hoc donations. Your support is making a real difference as you’ll see below.
Swati’s story
This is Swati Ghildiyal. She is ten years old. Her father, the sole earning member of the family died last year and her mother thought of moving her from the school as she could not afford her fees any more. Her total fees and books for the year come up to Rs. 7,000.00 or approximately £100.00. With your support, her fees are now paid, she has bought the books and is enjoying school. Her favourite subject is English and she wants to become a teacher!
Thank you for contributing to make her dream come true.
Encouraging independence in India
By the time you read this, 15th August, the Indian ‘independence day’ will have come and gone. We have now had sixty years of independence. For some, the fruits of independence and recent liberalisation of economy have brought much prosperity. But for others, specially the blind, and that too girls, struggle for independence for basic things we take for granted, still goes on – e.g. being able to go around unaided, right to a decent education and then achieving economic independence and self fulfilment.
The Trust is working with two major organisations to encourage independence. Read the stories below…….
Atam Jyoti Residential Blind Girls School Gwalior
Remember this……girls from Atam Jyoti school
The Trust has sent Rs. 1 lakh (100,000) to sponsor the girls for their education.

The other organisation is Sightsavers International. Visit their website www.sightsavers.org they have exciting projects and field workers, some of whom travel up to four miles a day reaching out to blind people and supporting them through passing on skills for living an independent and full life. One such person is Richard. Through education and training, he can now grow plants in his nursery and sells them thus supporting not only himself but his family too.
And finally,
Swami Vivekanand Sponsorship for Higher Education
The Trust received a letter of gratitude from Vivekanand Kendra for our contribution of Rs. 50,000/ for ‘student adoption’ in Arunachal Pradesh. It is through the 47 Kendra Vidyalayas that needy young people gain an education which puts them and our country on a firm footing.
Remember, we needed a helping hand in our lives too. Now it’s our turn to extend it to others!
Have a look at the following website: www.vkendra.org and be inspired!
Enjoy the ‘Indian Summer’ in September. Soak up the last bits of sunshine before cold winds of autumn set in. Extend the warmth by helping others.
Become a regular supporter. Join the expanding group of people living in ‘comfortable’ countries wanting to improve the lot of those still struggling back home to obtain and afford a decent education.
We look forward to hearing from you.
