SME Bowl Competition Logistics:

Day: Saturday of Conference

Time: 2:00-5:00 PM

Contact: Angelina Bellino ()

THE BOWL: The Bowl will initiate in two rooms, with one match per room. The brackets for the Bowl will be pre-determined by a random drawing. The team that is asked the first question will be determined by a coin toss. Questions will alternate from that point. The question will be read only once for the first team, and the team will be given 10 seconds to answer. The questions will be shown on a projector, so will NOT be read a second time. If the team gives the wrong answer, the opposing team will be given 5 seconds to answer.

The team must elect a spokeswoman to provide answers, and only the first answer provided will be accepted by the team. An answer will not be accepted if it is given after time has expired.

The match ends after each team has been asked a total of seven questions or at the end of 8 minutes, whichever occurs first. In the event of a tie, the following rules will be used:

Tie Breaker Rules: In the event of a tie at the end of the match, the two teams will

proceed to a play-off. The question will be read only once for both teams. The first team to buzz-in will have 5 seconds to answer the question. If the first team to buzz-in answers incorrectly, the second team will have 5 seconds to answer the question. The first team to answer a question correctly in the tiebreaker is the winner of the match.

The Bowl will be consolidated into one room following matches 15 & 16.

The competition will be double elimination -- each team must suffer two (2) losses to be eliminated from the competition. Teams will be eliminated until there is one left at the end of the competition. If Loser of Match 18 is suffering their first loss, then a final Match 19 will be played. The Winner of Match 19 will be the 1st place winner.

QUESTIONS: All questions are worth one point. If a participant disputes a question or answer, the answer provided on the printed question and answer sheet will be treated as the correct and FINAL answer.

TEAMS: There will be 10 teams, one from each region. The teams shall consist of no more than five (5) student members from each region. Teams must submit Sign-Up sheets to the ExxonMobil Booth at the Career Fair. Teams are allowed to include an 'Alternate Team Member', but that Alternate may only play if one of the 5 designated team members does not show up before the team's first match. The Alternate may be a SWE Conference attendee(s) from another region if the majority of the team members agree. If a team chooses not to complete their team with members from another section, they may compete with less than five (5) members. Each team will designate a 'Team Leader' to announce their answers. Teams may use pens and paper to calculate answers, but calculators are NOT allowed. Once the Bowl begins, a team may not change team members.

NO MEMBER OF ANY TEAM MAY HAVE PARTICIPATED IN A PREVIOUS SME BOWL COMPETITION.
