Skit Creation Project

Directions: As a group, you will be assigned a Christmas themed short story that you will transform into a FOUR minute skit. Your group may use your Elements of Drama notes in order to create your skit with appropriate dramatic elements.

The skit will be performed in front of the class. You have THREE days to complete this assignment and to be ready to perform. This is a deadline that you MUST make…No Excuses!! Every member of the group is important and vital to the group’s script and performance.

GROUP ROLE ASSIGNMENTS:

Playwright: You will write the skit and be in charge of the initial creation of the piece. The skit should follow the plot line of the short story that you have been given to adapt. Little or no changes should be required, but creativity is encouraged!!

Director: You are the leader. It is your job to keep the group on task. Also, you will help the playwright by adding stage directions and revising the dialogue and action of the script.

Creative designer: Your job is to create descriptions of the scenery, props, and costumes that will go along with your skit. You will not actually make these, but you will be required to give a detailed description of each item with a justification from the short story telling why you decided to use that particular item. You may also add drawings and sketches after you have completed the descriptions.

Fact checker: It is your job to make sure that the script and creative designs match with the short story. Dialogue should make sense, characters should reflect those in the story, setting should match the short story, etc. You will play a vital role in timing the skit, revising the script, and finalizing the last minute details in order for your group to be well-prepared for the performance.
