Skateboarding championships roll into Rosehill
The Victorian qualifying rounds of the 2014 Nike xSbAAmateur Titleswill be rolling into Rosehill Skatepark onSaturday, 1 February.
Skateboarders should not miss the opportunity to make their mark by claimingthe State title and the chance to win cash, prizesand giveaways, as well as an invitation to the Australian Championships.
Moonee Valley’s Mayor Cr Jan Chantry said it was great to see events such as this hosted in the local area.
“Moonee Valley has many world class features and facilities to offer and being chosen as the host for this event reinforces that fact” said Cr Chantry.
“We’re proud to be able to hold a championship event such as this in our municipality and hope it’ll be one of many more in the future.”
Registration for the qualifying heats at Rosehill opens from 9am, with cutoff 10.30am for Juniors and 12pm for Open Division.
The top six winners in the open division and the top three juniors in each State and Territory will qualify for the Championships, to be held atMelbourne Showgrounds, 18October.
Portfolio holder for Sports and Recreation Cr John Sipek said this event was one element of the leisure offer providedby Council, making sure there are activities and events for all the community to get active.
“As well as this competition, Council is working in partnership with various organisations to offer activities, such as Learn to Skate sessions throughout the year,” said Cr Sipek.
“Residents who get the skating bug from this event should visit the Council website for details of how they too can get on board – or get involved with other events such as the Leisure Challenge and the Moonee Valley Fun Run.”

Rosehill is a 20 min skate or 10 min drive from Essendon station. Please visit ptv.vic.gov.au for transportation details.
