Six new venues announced for Super Charity’s massive family day out

The Temora Aviation Museum and Gosford Classic Car Museum are two of six new venues announced as part of the ‘World’s Largest Open House’ event to be held on Sunday April 30th from 10am-2pm to raise funds for Super Charity NSW Kids in Need.

The aviation museum, based in the Riverina region of New South Wales and the car museum, based on the New South Wales Central Coast, heads a cast of high-profile newcomers to an action-packed list of venues.

For the first time since its launch in 2015, the World’s Largest Open House will also provide exclusive tarmac tours of Sydney Airport – the country’s busiest airport; behind-the-scenes access to the Sydney Cricket Ground; tours of RAAF Base Williamtown – the nation’s main fighter pilot training base; and the headquarters for the New South Wales Mounted Police Unit.

The Sydney CBD and Alexandria fire stations – two of the busiest in the country; Garden Island and an Australian warship will also make return appearances for this year’s event.

Officially launched on board HMAS Canberra at Garden Island, the event is all in aid of raising funds for Super Charity New South Wales Kids In Need which supports six child-focussed charities including:

•Bear Cottage Children’s Hospice

•The Burns Unit at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead

•Central Coast Kids in Need

•Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia

•Muscular Dystrophy NSW

•SHINE for Kids

The Super Charity is run by a volunteer board and runs to a ‘zero cost’ model meaning that every dollar raised goes directly to the supported charities.

NSW Kids in Need Chairman Peter Debnam said he continued to be humbled by the enthusiasm of the many venue partners to be involved in the event, which over the past two years has attracted crowds of almost 100,000 and raised more than $320,000 for the charities.

“We’re anticipating larger crowd numbers than ever before due to the exciting and adventurous additions to this year’s program of events.

“It simply would not be possible without their goodwill and generous support,” he said.

Already, the NSW Government, Channel 7, Macquarie Radio, Navy, Army, Sydney Airport, NSW Police, Gosford Classic Car Museum and NSW Fire & Rescue have provided resources to support the initiative. And some of Sydney’s most high-profile identities have thrown their support behind NSW Kids in Need including former NSW Governor, The Hon Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO, former NSW Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt and Seven News anchor Mark Ferguson joins broadcaster and journalist Tracey Spicer as Ambassadors. Radio personalities Alan Jones, Ben Fordham and David Berthon are also supporters of the event, through their association with 2GB.

“Each year we’ve been blown away by the community generosity we’ve seen. We’re also so grateful to our volunteers, our charities and our partners. It’s a monumental effort to make the ‘World’s Largest Open House’ happen, so for everybody to be so enthusiastic really demonstrates the sheer goodwill of those involved,” Mr Debnam says.
