Kaydee Miller (341.40, 13th place) qualified for the Southwest District Diving Championships; her performance at Wednesday night's Sectional competition is within striking distance of a trip to state finals. Miller will join Kyle Flenar and Jackson Kissel as Fairmont's diving representatives at the District meet on February 15/16.

Kyle Flenar (296.95, 16th place) and Jackson Kissel (257.65, 21st place) were among the top-24 performers at the combined sectional competition; both athletes qualified for next week’s OHSAA Southwest District Finals. Tim Kendig (234.10) advanced through all eleven rounds; ending up 27th overall. Alex Durham (162.80) exited the competition after the 8th round and finished 29th.

02-06-11: Miamisburg Viking (11-Dive) Invitational

The Fairmont diving team outscored Miamisburg and Oakwood at Sunday's Viking Invitational. Kaydee Miller led the lady Firebirds with her 1st place performance of 388.30; Miller's score represents a lifetime best for the eleven-dive format. Bethany Blumenstock (262.80) finished 3rd, Kamryn Hyde (248.90) placed 5th, and Taylor Hamilton (239.05) claimed 6th place. The Fairmont men were paced by Kyle Flenar; his winning performance of 320.05 was a career-best. Jackson Kissel (249.05) placed 4th, Alex Durham (240.25) was 6th, and Tim Kendig (235.35) finished 7th.

01-27-11: Greater Western Ohio Conference Championships

Fairmont finished second (men/women/combined) among eight teams competing at the Greater Western Ohio Conference Championships; 2011 marks the first time that all eight FHS varsity divers scored team points at GWOC Finals. School record holder Kaydee Miller (241.55) led the lady Firebirds with her 3rd place performance; Kamryn Hyde (183.05) placed 6th, Bethany Blumenstock (153.50) finished 13th and Taylor Hamilton (149.30) placed 15th.

In men's competition, Kyle Flenar (198.35) claimed 5th place; Tim Kendig (158.80) tied for 11th, Alex Durham (157.35) placed 13th, and Jackson Kissel (156.65) finished 14th.

Side Note: Kendig and Durham posted a seasonal-best at GWOC.

Kaydee Miller added 26 points to her school record for six dives; Miller's 1st place performance of 256.10 ranks second all-time among GWOC athletes. Kamryn Hyde also came up big for the Firebirds; her 6th place score of 185.95 represented a career-best. Meanwhile, first-year divers Taylor Hamilton (175.35) and Bethany Blumenstock (168.15) produced seasonal-bests. Natalie Uy and Sarah Miller improved upon their season average; while freshman Courtney Hemmelgarn competed for the first time, scoring 98.55

On the men's side, Kyle Flenar finished 2nd with his 193.15 performance; while Jackson Kissel posted a score of 153.90 to place 5th. Tim Kendig produced a yearly-best of 152.95 and Alex Durham improved upon his seasonal average. Team wise, the lady Firebirds outscored Bellbrook (8-5); the men finished second to Bellbrook (7-11).

01-16-11 & 01-15-11: Southwest Classic Finals & Preliminaries

On January 16, at the Southwest Classic Finals, Kaydee Miller (320.15) placed 11th; while Kyle Flenar (279.33) claimed 13th place among the men.

Preliminaries

On January 15 at the Southwest District Classic diving preliminaries, Kaydee Miller (230.55) 3rd place, Kyle Flenar 5th place (205.95) and Jackson Kissel 11th place (159.35) qualified for the Sunday finals at the University of Cincinnati. Kaydee's performance in the preliminaries was a new Fairmont varsity record for the six-dive format. In men's competition, Kyle's Saturday score was the second best performance in school history; less than 7 points from a Fairmont record.

Senior Captain Kaydee Miller put up a good fight versus Centerville’s Morgan Mullins and Olivia Lehman. Finishing in third-place with a score of 356.40, Kaydee continues to exhibit remarkable consistency. Miller’s average score since December 18 is 363.15; a mark that would have qualified her for the 2010 state finals. Also placing in the top-ten was Kamryn Hyde (8th/234.10).

In men’s competition, junior Jackson Kissel paced the Firebird attack with his 9th place performance of 219.50; Tim Kendig was 10th with a score of 206.25

12-28-10: Van Wert (11-Dive) Invitational

@ Van Wert YMCA

Kaydee Miller battled Bryan High's Aleasha Posey - dive for dive, through all eleven rounds. When the results were announced, Posey had posted a score of 348.75 to Miller's 348.70; the smallest possible margin of victory. In the battle for team honors, Miller's performance - combined with Taylor Hamilton (8th/227.95), Kamryn Hyde (10th/224.80) and Bethany Blumenstock (12th/205.90) - was precisely enough to outscore Celina High School (40-39).

In men's competition, Kyle Flenar continues to impress the judges with his strength and finesse; Flenar finished in fifth place with 270.15

12-18-10: Milford (11-Dive) Invitational

@ Milford High School

Kaydee Miller posted a score of 384.35 to win bronze at the 2nd Annual Milford Invitational. Kaydee's 11-dive total is second only to the 406.10 posted by Firebird Nikki Fitzgerald in 1998; Miller now ranks third all-time among GWOC performers. Also placing at Saturday's competition was Fairmont's Natalie Uy (15th) at 204.35 and Bethany Blumenstock (17th) with 196.95

Sidebar: Taylor Hamilton posted a 9-dive score of 186.90

In men's competition, Jackson Kissel was Fairmont's top-gun; his score of 248.25 placed 6th. Tim Kendig (8th) 237.75, and Alex Durham (11th) 195.80, rounded out the Firebird performances.

12-04-10: Bellbrook (6-Dive) Ice-Breaker

(Vs. Bellbrook, Carroll, MHS, Mother of Mercy)

@ Beavercreek YMCA

Captain Kaydee Miller (1st: 199.15), Kamryn Hyde (4th: 156.60) and freshman Taylor Hamilton (6th: 132.00) led Fairmont to victory in ladies diving; Bellbrook finished second; while Miamisburg ended up third. In men’s competition, Bellbrook out-pointed the Firebirds (10-8) to claim team honors; nevertheless, Fairmont fared well. Captain Kyle Flenar was runner-up at 161.90; Tim Kendig finished 4th (135.45) and Alex Durham claimed 7th (five-dives: 111.45).

Kyle Flenar (3rd place: 172.85) was within three points of his lifetime best. Kaydee Miller (3rd place: 212.30) scored a personal best; two points shy of the Fairmont High School varsity record (214.55) set by Katie Wunderlich in 1996.
