Customer Support Intern

Are you interested in experiencing how today’s workplace provide online customer support? Ensuring customer satisfaction is essential to the success of any type of business. The SIU CWD is responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing multiple state web and mobile applications. Our websites include: Illinois workNet, Illinois Pathways, Illinois Shared Learning Environment and more, all of them focus on career and workforce development. Our customers include: individuals/job seekers, employers, and education/workforce partners. This intern works with the customer service specialist to respond to customer needs online and to ensure positive customer experiences. Technologies used include:

 Microsoft Office Suite; SharePoint 2013; software for creating graphics including infographics such as Adobe Fireworks; and video creating and editing software such as Camtasia; software for managing social media such as HootSuite, social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Edmodo; and AdobeConnect for webcasts.

What you will learn:

  • Using tools for effective and efficient online communications.
  • Researching and writing online content.
  • Delivering online content.
  • How you will participate
  • Writing news items.
  • Creating graphics used with news items, FAQ, and social media.
  • Monitoring and responding to frequently asked questions.
  • Posting content online.
  • Monitoring and posting to social media.
  • Creating screencasts and videos for online viewing via YouTube and embedded playlists.
  • Helping with webcasts.

Programmer Intern

Programs: Computer Programming, Database or Web Design

Are you interested in experiencing all of the facets of developing, maintaining and enhancing enterprise web and mobile applications? The SIU CWD is responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing multiple state web and mobile applications. Our websites include: Illinois workNet, Illinois Pathways, Illinois Shared Learning Environment and more, all of them focus on career and workforce development. This intern works with the SIU CWD Applications Analyst.

What you will learn:

  • Writing, testing, and performing problem resolution on website and related applications in accordance with established procedures and specifications
  • Handling quality assurance for the websites to include maintaining testing plans and change management plans.
  • Incorporating changes in user needs and to maintain efficiency in data processing procedures for phased development and incremental improvements
  • How you will participate:
  • Design and develop ASP.NET and Java applications using Java, Visual Studio.NET, C#, Microsoft SQL Server, and XML
  • Apply knowledge in AJAX, SQL Server programming, and Crystal Reports
  • Write Stored Procedures and Optimizing SQL Queries
  • Apply generally accepted programming standards and techniques to assure efficient program logic and data manipulation
  • Participate in designing, coding, testing, debugging, and configuring products
  • Provide assistance and routine consultation to users in the development of products
  • Work independently on projects within a team environment where direction is offered cooperatively

Are you interested in how to create online professional training? The SIU CWD provides professional training using live webinars, screen casts, online guides, and online course modules. Our websites include: Illinois workNet, Illinois Pathways, Illinois Shared Learning Environment and more, all of them focus on career and workforce development. This intern works with the training and integration specialist to maintain, update and create new online courses, webinars, and guides for workforce and education partners.

 Microsoft Office Suite; SharePoint 2013; software for creating graphics including infographics such as Adobe Fireworks; video creating and editing software such as Camtasia; storyboarding software such as Balsamiq; and AdobeConnect for webcasts.

What you will learn:

  • Selecting and developing online training methods.
  • Creating web pages, webinars, screencasts, and videos.
  • Writing and simplifying online content.
  • Creating infographics.
  • How you will participate:
  • Writing guides for workforce and education partners.
  • Developing online module outlines and content.
  • Creating graphics.
  • Posting content online.
  • Creating screencasts and videos for online viewing via YouTube and embedded playlists.
  • Helping with webcasts.

Are you interested in experiencing how web content is created and delivered to thousands of people effectively and efficiently? Online communications are essential to all businesses, government agencies, schools, and essentially any legitimate organization. The SIU CWD is responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing multiple state web and mobile applications. Our websites include: Illinois workNet, Illinois Pathways, Illinois Shared Learning Environment and more, all of them focus on career and workforce development. This intern works with the content manager. Technologies used include:

 Microsoft Office Suite; SharePoint 2013; software for creating graphics including infographics such as Adobe Fireworks; video creating and editing software such as Camtasia; storyboarding software such as Balsimiq.

What you will learn:

  • Using tools for effective and efficient online communications.
  • Researching and writing online content.
  • Delivering online content.
  • How you will participate:
  • Researching career development trends such as resume writing, demand occupations, career pathways, and job searching.
  • Writing content and scripts focused on workforce and career development.
  • Creating graphics used on websites.
  • Creating screencasts and videos for online viewing via YouTube and embedded playlists.

  • Helping with webcasts.
  • Tagging resources for specialized searches.
