Job Title: Program Coordinator

Reports To: Executive Director

Status: Non-Exempt, Full time Position(Tuesday-Saturday)

Pay Range: $16-22/hr

Starting Wage: $16-19/hr DOE

Deadline: Friday October 20th by 5:00pm.

Job Overview:

Sisters Park and Recreation District is seeking a motivated professional to fill the program coordinator position. The right candidate will possess a drive for excellence in everything they do, and have a passion for creating and improving recreation programs. Working directly with sports programs often requires long hours but is exceptionally rewarding. The ideal candidate will have a desire to take our programs to the next level. Programs include but are not limited to: youth sports leagues, tournaments, summer camps, classes, and special events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and supervise a wide variety of youth sports leagues, events, and tournaments.
  • Give training and direction to volunteer coaches, and temporary program staff such as summer camp recreation leaders and referees, so that they can deliver excellent service.
  • Assist in the development and implementationof a plan to increase the number of these activities offered through SPRD, increase quality, and build participation numbers.
  • Track program revenues and expenses, and keep programs on budget, including developing plans to raise additional revenue when necessary.
  • Oversee general upkeep and care of equipment and facilities for youth sports.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Create and maintain league schedules and tournament brackets.
  • Purchase supplies as needed for programs.
  • Prepare necessary materials and equipment.
  • Maintain safe environment for participants.
  • Operate standard office equipment, and registration software.
  • Develop and maintain a positive attitude with participants, general public, staff and volunteers.
  • Take registrations, answer phones, and perform other tasks related to registration for various activities.
  • Create flyers and promotional materials.
  • Promote programs and recruit participants with the goal of increasing program participation.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibility: Position will be responsible for exercising lead direction over a team of volunteers which will mostly be youth sport coaches, referees, and summer camp staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of team sports, and youth activities, with apassion and enthusiasm for generating new and exciting events. Many of the activities we run must be outside the school or work day, therefore the candidate must be willing to work outside of the standard work day when necessary.

  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn new programs.
  • Experience in activity planning, organizational, leadership, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work well and interact with community, clubs, and special interest groups.
  • Excellent public relations, public speaking skills, oral and written communication skills.
  • High energy and positive attitude.
  • Drive and flexibility to be able to work the long hours sometimes required by tournaments and special events.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and initiative.
  • Physical ability to lift equipment and suppliesand lead a variety of recreation activities.
  • Exceptional ability to work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive relationship with staff, program partners and the general public.
  • Desire to create a culture of excellence in our sports programs that allows kids to reach their full potential.
  • The ability to diffuse potentially volatile situations in a calm and professional, yet firm manner.

Qualifications:Sufficient combination of education and/or experience including: Bachelors degree with emphasis recreation, education, health and/or related field, or one year of experience planning programs and activities; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above described duties. Current Oregon Drivers License. A strong sports background will be necessary to be successful in this position. Clean criminal background. Current First Aid and CPRor ability to obtain once hired.

Working Conditions: Work is performed either outdoors or indoors, depending on specific duties. Standard work week will be Tuesday through Saturday. Position will require some late nights, early mornings, long weeks, and weekends. Position is fast paced and can be both stressful and rewarding, dealing with a wide variety of participants, contractors, volunteers and the general public.
