Oppenheim Trust for the Tertiary Education of the Visually Impaired 30 September 2016

This Trust was founded by Dr and Mrs Oppenheim in November 1989. The purpose of the Trust is to provide assistance to registered Blind Foundation clients who are presently undergoing or are about to enter tertiary education.

The Oppenheims, in founding this Trust, recognise the particular problems faced by tertiary students where assistance is minimal compared to the State funded primary and secondary education support systems.

The Trust defines tertiary education as courses of study leading to a degree or recognised vocational qualification.

Applications are now invited from Blind Foundation clients and should be made by completing the attached form in full and accompanied by supporting material and letters. Incomplete applications may not be considered. Applications need to be in the hands of the Trust Administrator no later than 5pm on Monday 16 January 2017. Trustees will meet inJanuary 2017 with disbursements to successful applicants by mid February 2017. In fairness to other applicants late applications will not be accepted. If possible a recent photo of the applicant would be appreciated - this adds a personal touch.

Because the resources of the Trust are limited the trust is not able to assist with the cost of textbooks, travel or accommodation. The Trust focusses its resources specifically towards the cost of course fees.

All grants for fees will be made payable directly to the tertiary education provider.

The Oppenheim Trust does not provide funding for equipment. We recommend that you register with your nearest Workbridge office or contact your local Blind Foundation Employment Consultant for assistance with equipment. The Blind Foundation Pearson Fund can also be approached to provide funding for equipment. Please contact the Pearson Fund Administrator on 0800 24 33 33 for an application form or advice.

Please supply results from last year’s study where applicable.

Applications should be addressed to the Oppenheim Trust, Blind Foundation, Private Bag 99941, Newmarket, Auckland 1149. If sending in via courier the physical address is Awhina House, Blind Foundation, 4 Maunsell Road, Parnell, Auckland.
