Announcement:
As part of the NC DPI Statewide SIOP Initiative, the NC DPI ESL Office is seeking participants for the SIOP Support Team. This team will provide ongoing SIOP training and coaching to SIOP trained teachers and administrators across the state.
Team members will be selected through an application process. Those accepted as SIOP Support Team members will receive training during the summer and begin providing training/coaching across the state in the 2010-2011 school year.
Details:
SIOP Support Team members will serve as trainers and coaches for teachers, administrators and others who have had basic SIOP training and serve ELLs in the K-12 school system in North Carolina.
The SIOP Support Team will be comprised of up to 24members as follows:
4 Math specialists
4Science specialists
4 English Language Arts specialists
4 Social Studies specialists
4 Other content area/coaching/training specialists
4 ESL specialists
Team members will work together to develop SIOP training materials, lesson plans and other support materials, as well as train and coach SIOP practitioners to support and enhance their skillsin implementing the SIOP model of instruction.
Districts will request SIOP training/coaching services through the ESL Office at NC DPI. Once a request is approved, teams,comprised of 2 or more members from the larger group, will be assigned.
SIOP Support Team members should have completed basic SIOP training, implemented SIOP in the classroom, have experience in delivering professional development and show leadership ability.
Those selected as team members will receive training in strengthening SIOP implementation and coaching skills during the summer of 2010.
Team members should be willing to travel for assignments and potentially to work on weekends or take personal days for assignments as part of the SIOP Support Team. All expenses related to this role will be reimbursed per state guidelines and contractual fees will be paid.
