SIN: the evil which I would not, that I do.

Rom 7:11-25

11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

You have been deceived Christian. So much so that you have been killed. Sin has killed you spiritually (mankind) and you are destined for Hell because of it. Are you deceived in thinking that everything is just going great for you?!

Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Sin is deceiving. No one really understands its power. Most will say that there is nothing wrong with doing just a little sin now and then. Many will not even recognize that they are daily involved with sin. It needs to be examined closely for it easily deceives a person. As you get more and more deceived you your heart gets more and more hardened to the point that nothing is really sin anymore.

Heart feels that everything is going just fine

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

The heart, or the real you, will deceive you into thinking that certain practices are just fine when the Bible clearly points out their error

Uncertainty about whether really sin or not

Rom 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Deceived into thinking that as long as there is no specific command not to do something in the Bible, then it is ok to do it. If there is doubt in your mind then it is sin to you to do it. Think of some of the questionable practices that you are involved with: questionable equals sinful.

12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

Our big problem is that we don’t understand just how wicked and evil sin really is. God totally hates sin. We actually like sin. We need to understand what the Bible says about sin and see how exceeding sinful sin is. Just compare sin with the infinitely holy God that we supposedly serve.

14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Look at your plight! You are indebted to sin. Sold by the Devil himself. You are not your own. You have got to serve somebody.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

People that are sinners are automatically a child of the Devil. Christians actually are worshipping their former father when they sin.

15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

Quit thinking that you are so good. The flesh part of you (the non-spiritual side) has nothing good in it. It is really basically worthless.

No provision for it

Rom 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

The flesh is full of evil, so it must be controlled somehow. One key way is not feeding it (not foodwise). Don’t set yourself up for a fall. Don’t flirt with disaster.

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

We are miserable excuses for children of the Most High God! The things we know to be evil and that we don’t like, we end up doing!! We can’t seem to do anything right. We are told over and over not to do something, but we often will go ahead and do it.

Besetting

(Heb 12:1,2) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

We do that which we don’t want to because it is engrained in us. We have habitually done something so long that it doesn’t just leave without a good fight. Bad habits are hard to break. It keeps coming back rearing its ugly head.

Returning to the vomit

(Prov 26:11) As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

Why would any dog go back to its vomit. It is natural for them to. It seems so ridiculous though! We are the same with our wicked, vomit filled sins. Why do we keep going back to them?!

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

No matter what you do, you are stuck with your sin nature for now. Evil is present with you. You can’t escape it.

Weak self control

James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Temptation comes along and because of the evil present in you, you easily fall into it. So easily drawn away!

1 Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it .

But, don’t just give up, God wants you to get victory over the evil that is in you. He will make a way to escape!

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

A battle rages on: spirit versus the flesh. Who will bring who into captivity? Who usually wins the battle? The flesh is weak but the spirit is willing. Oh, you are willing to do right, but that flesh is just so weak you can’t seem to do it. Oh wretched man that I am!

Tight hold on you

Ps 40:12-13 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me. Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.

You are so bound up in sin that it may seem that there is no way out. Deep, deep bondage to it. Enslavement.

Bondage

John 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

Every time you commit a certain sin, you become more and more the servant of it, and it your master. Some sins end up totally taking over a person’s life…they become totally enslaved to them!

Pleasures of sin

Heb 11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

We delight in the things of God some, but sad to say, we delight in the pleasures of sin more. It just makes your flesh feel so good that you are enslaved to the thing and in no easy way are going to give it up! We are pleasure seekers…the American way.

24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

You know you should do what’s right. Much of you wants to do what is right. But, you keep doing that which is evil. Oh how wretched you are! Well, most don’t feel very wretched, but this is the truth of the matter. Why don’t you get really mad at your self and your plight?! Call yourself wretched and beg for help!

25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Who shall deliver you? Jesus Christ the Lord can! Thank Him that He is able and willing to. Are you willing to let Him deliver you?! You can make up your mind to serve God but the law of sin still rages on in your flesh. Oh, do you need help!
