SIN AND THE LAW OF GOD

1 JOHN 3:4- SIN IS TRANSGRESSION OF GOD’S LAW.

Rom. 3:23- all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

Sin- THE BREAKING OF GOD’S LAW. 1 JOHN 3:4- WHOSOEVER COMMITTETH SIN TRANSGRESSETH THE LAW, FOR SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW.

Expressivists are not trying to speak the truth when making moral judgments; they are simply trying to express their feelings.

  1. RIGHT YOU ARE IF YOU THINK YOU ARE- (MORAL RELATIVISM):

The Argument from Diversity in Moral Practice

Argument no. 1 states: Since cultures and individuals differ in certain moral practices, there are no objective moral values

The Argument from the Virtue of Tolerance

Argument no. 2 for ethical relativism states: Since ethical relativism promotes tolerance of certain cultural practices that members of Western civilization may think are strange, ethical relativism is a good thing.

  1. THERE IS AN OBJECTIVE TRUTH: THE EXISTENCE OF LIFE AND THE UNIVERSE PROVES THAT THERE IS A CREATOR WHO MADE THE PHYSICAL WORLD, WHICH CANNOT BE SELF-GENERATING, (SPONTANEOUS GENERATION).
  1. HE IS THE REPOSITORY OF TRUTH.
  2. HE IS THE REPOSITORY OF LIFE.
  3. HE IS THE REPOSITORY OF POWER.
  4. HE IS THE REPOSITORY OF KNOWLEDGE.
  5. HE IS THE POTTER; WE AND THE UNIVERSE ARE THE CLAY.
  1. Adam’s sin (Gen. 3:1-6) consisted in his yielding to the assaults of temptation and eating the forbidden fruit. It involved in it:
  1. the guilt (BREAKING A BINDING LAW) of disobedience to a positive command.
  2. PROMISE- YOU WILL DIE!
  3. THE REJECTION OF THEIR CREATOR, REJECTION OF LIFE IN FAVOR OF DEATH.

By this sin, he became an apostate from God, a rebel in arms against his Creator. He lost the favor of God and communion with him; his whole nature became depraved, and he incurred the penalty involved in the covenant of works.

“Our first parents being the root of all mankind, the guilt of their sin was conveyed to all their posterity, descending from them by ordinary generation.”

Adam was constituted by God the federal head and representative of all his posterity., as he was also their natural head, and therefore when he fell they

SIN influences and depraves the whole man, and its tendency is still downward to deeper and deeper corruption, there remaining no recuperative element in the soul. It is a total depravity, and it is also universally inherited by all the natural descendants of Adam (Rom. 3:10-23; 5:12-21; 8:7).

The doctrine of original sin is proved…

  1. from the fact of the universal sinfulness of men

“There is no man that sinneth not” (1 Kings 8:46; Isa. 53:6; Ps. 130:3; Rom. 3:19, 22-23; Gal. 3:22).

B. THE DEATH OF ALL MEN.

MORAL STANDARD: TEN COMMANDMENTS. JAMES 2:10-14. James 2:10-26New Century Version (NCV)

10 A person who follows all of God’s law but fails to obey even one command is guilty of breaking all the commands in that law. 11 The same God who said, “You must not be guilty of adultery,”[a] also said, “You must not murder anyone.”[b] So if you do not take part in adultery but you murder someone, you are guilty of breaking all of God’s law. 12 In everything you say and do, remember that you will be judged by the law that makes people free. 13 So you must show mercy to others, or God will not show mercy to you when he judges you. But the person who shows mercy can stand without fear at the judgment.

Faith and Good Works

14 My brothers and sisters, if people say they have faith, but do nothing, their faith is worth nothing. Can faith like that save them? 15 A brother or sister in Christ might need clothes or food. 16 If you say to that person, “God be with you! I hope you stay warm and get plenty to eat,” but you do not give what that person needs, your words are worth nothing. 17 In the same way, faith by itself—that does nothing—is dead.

18 Someone might say, “You have faith, but I have deeds.” Show me your faith without doing anything, and I will show you my faith by what I do. 19 You believe there is one God. Good! But the demons believe that, too, and they tremble with fear.

20 You foolish person! Must you be shown that faith that does nothing is worth nothing? 21 Abraham, our ancestor, was made right with God by what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar. 22 So you see that Abraham’s faith and the things he did worked together. His faith was made perfect by what he did. 23 This shows the full meaning of the Scripture that says: “Abraham believed God, and God accepted Abraham’s faith, and that faith made him right with God.”[c] And Abraham was called God’s friend.[d] 24 So you see that people are made right with God by what they do, not by faith only.

25 Another example is Rahab, a prostitute, who was made right with God by something she did. She welcomed the spies into her home and helped them escape by a different road.

26 Just as a person’s body that does not have a spirit is dead, so faith that does nothing is dead!

The Law of God
I
Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
II
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.
III
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.
IV
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man servant, nor thy maid servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates : for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.
V
Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
VI
Thou shalt not kill.
VII
Thou shalt not commit adultery. Strong's Exhaustive Concordance
adultereress, committing adultery, woman that breaks wedlock
A primitive root; to commit adultery; figuratively, to apostatize -- adulterer(-ess), commit(-ing) adultery, woman that breaketh wedlock.
A contemporary women's magazine recently described it as our number one problem today. Nathaniel Hawthorne called it "the scarlet sin." The Bible simply describes it as "adultery." The actual causes of broken homes are legion, yet one factor which constantly creeps into the equation is that the loss of love and affection gradually weakens a marriage until the love and commitment which belongs to a mate is given to another.
A union of two becomes a triangle of three. I am fully aware of the fact that many men and women now consider themselves sexually liberated. Seldom do I ever present a Family Living seminar and take questions from the audience that I am not asked, "Do you really believe that a person should confine his sexual activity to one person?" Almost as though the husband or wife who remains true to his vows, limiting his affection to his or her mate, was either undersexed or underprivileged.
Yet for centuries, the basis of morality when it comes to home and family living, is found in the seventh commandment, recorded in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5 in the Bible. Here God expressed His views of public and private morality, saying, "Thou shalt not commit adultery!" (Exodus 20:14, KJV).
Just what does that word really mean? Without taking time to give you a detailed analysis, which really isn't necessary, may I say that a careful study of the biblical words in both testaments can be summarized by saying adultery is sexual relations apart from marriage. In the broader sense this includes both premarital and extramarital sex. But let's face it what the Bible says often isn't very popular.
VIII
Thou shalt not steal.
IX
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
X
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man servant, nor his maid servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.
