Dear parents,

As many of you will know one of the special privileges of being a church school is our close partnership with our local village church. This means we are able to share in worship at the church during the school year. The first time we do this is at harvest time which is next week. In the last week of September we plan to hold two harvest festivals and different classes will attend and perform in each one so that we still have space to invite parents to join us.

The plan is as follows:-

Thursday 28th September at 9.30 a.m.

Harvest Festival for Sycamore (Year 2), Hawthorn (Year 1,) Palm (Year3) and Acorn (Year R)

Friday 29th September at 9.30 a.m.

Harvest Festival for Chestnut (Year R) Maple (Year 2), Willow (Year 1) and Oak (Year 4)

If your child would normally be in their PE kit on their Harvest Festival day, please send them in their PE kit as usual. I would like to invite you to join us at the service in which your child is participating.

As usual we would like to ask the children to contribute a harvest gift. Please ensure your child’s name is somewhere on the gift. This is particularly important for the Reception and Year 1 classes as their gifts will be taken to church by car and then re-distributed to the children so that they can present them. The children will all present their gifts at the beginning of the service.

The gift can range from a small tin or dried food to some fresh produce which is presented in a box or basket. I know parents are always very generous with the gifts they provide and the baskets and boxes are always highly appreciated by the elderly Silsoe residents who receive them. Can I however ask that you make the gift small enough for the children to carry themselves? A small tin or dried produce is very useful because it can contribute towards the church’s food bank, while any surplus fresh produce will be auctioned after the church harvest festival on Sunday 1st October and the funds raised given to the hospice at Moggerhanger. So you can see all of the children’s gifts are very well used.

I hope many of you will be able to join us as we thank God for all of his goodness to all of us and consider just how fortunate we are.
