In order to be eligible for consideration for induction into the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, students must meet the requirements listed below. All materials are due to Dr. King’s office (SJH B40-11) by Thursday October 20 at 5 p.m. Upon acceptance, there is a $50 induction fee.

A minimum of 3 courses English at the Graduate level:

*Submit a copy of your record (see instructions on timeline below) with GPA clearly highlighted. This information will be reviewed only by Dr. King and is confidential.

A short essay, maximum 250 words, typed on a separate page MUST be submitted with this application. For this essay, please consider (1) your relationship with literature and literary studies and (2) how the Honor Society can enhance your experience as a student of English at St. John’s University. (This may include suggestions for activities for next year).

All materials must be submitted to Dr. King for review. If you drop off materials when she is not in, leave them in the mailbox located on her office door or with the administrative staff in the English department and she will review and sign upon receipt.

TIMELINE:

Thursday October 20: Applications due to Dr. King

In order to verify your GPA, please print out an Advisement Report from UIS, highlight BOTH GPAs, and submit with the application and essay to Dr. King

Monday October 24: Notification of acceptance

(including date of induction ceremony and instructions on paying dues)

Thursday November 3: $50 induction fee due

Please note that induction fee covers the cost of national membership ($40) and chapter membership ($10). These dues are required.
