the next 15 editions of the Gelato World Cup in Rimini:

the event in live TV streaming in Europe and repeated at night for “the rest of the world”.

Meeting of all the categories and the key trade fair,

focus on joint action to support artisan gelato.

The Guinness Book of Records officially publishes the record of the world’s largest cone

Rimini, 26th October 2011 – The 33rdSIGEP promises to be held under the banner of great development.TheInternational Exhibition of artisan Gelato, Confectionery and Bakery production, being held from 21st to 25th January 2012 at Rimini Fiera, has strengthened its agreement with the founders of the Gelato World Cup, planning to work together for the next 15 editions.The agreement was inked between Rimini Fiera and the Associazione Gelato e Cultura, whose chairman is Giancarlo Timballo (also the leader of Co.Gel.FIPE and Chairman of the World Cup).

Rimini Fiera business unit manager Patrizia Cecchi explains, “This agreement will enable to fine-tune the development plan of an event that bringing together 13 nations from five continents in 2012.We are working on also making it a television event, providing it with a dedicated “production suite”.In January it will be possible to follow the World Cup with nine hours of daily coverage on SIGEP’s Web TV,accessible from the home page of the expo’s Web site: will be in Italian and English.At night the coverage will be re-transmitted for those following from the other side of the globe.A historical step that will enable the competition to also be offered to large television networks.”

Also with a view to expanding the sector and SIGEP, last month Rimini Fiera hosted a meeting with the representatives of all the most important trade associations in the Gelato world (including Filippo Banom, Chairman of the GAT and Vice Chairman of the Comitato Nazionale per la difesa e diffusione del Gelato Artigianale e di produzione propria (national committee for the defence and spread of Artisan Gelato); Vittorio Bartyan – Chairman, Acomag; Marco Gennuso - Vice Chairman CNA Alimentare; Candida Pelizzoli – Chairperson, Maestros of Italian Gelato-making; Alberto Pica -Chairman, SIGA; Loris Molin Pradel – Chairman, Confartigianato Gelatieri; Giancarlo Timballo – Chairman, Co.Gel Fipe).

This occasion, which was historical in a certain way, enabled to plan a series of joint initiatives in the interest of the entire artisan confectionery chain and able to further strengthen SIGEP’s expo proposals, as in the case of the initiative infavour of the trade’s new entrepreneurs:SIGEP Neo.

THE GUINNESS RECORD-SETTING CONE IS NOW “CERTIFIED”

On the inauguration day of SIGEP 2011, an attempt was made to enter the Guinness World Records, thanks to the largest gelato cone in the world, 281 centimetres high (4,870 kg), made by chocolatier Mirco Della Vecchia and his team of seven artisans after 30 hours' work.Measurements were taken by Lucia Sinigagliesi, the London-based Italian responsible for the Guinness World Records in Europe.

The attempt has now been officially entered in the Guinness Book of Records (the fourth most-read book in the world, after the Holy Bible, the works of Mao and the Koran, with 580.350 million copies), which only includes the most spectacular records.
