Siemens Rail Systems is the leading passenger train maintainer in the UK, looking after over 1600 vehicles for customers like Heathrow Express, London Midland, and South-West Trains.

As an apprentice, you will receive first-rate training and tuition from the National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR) and our local Partner College. You will work towards nationally-recognised engineering qualifications including a NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations, a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and an NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.

In the workplace, you will be part of a busy production team preparing trains for service, completing routine maintenance, and carrying-out fault finding. You will also visit other depots, departments, customers, and suppliers nationally, and take part in team-building days, volunteering events, and learner forums.

If you’re looking to take your professional development further, the scheme is EngTech-accredited, and there is the opportunity to take a HNC or HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

You will earn a full-time salary and be eligible for yearly pay review.

What are my responsibilities?

·  To develop engineering skills and knowledge in preparation for a role as a multi-skilled rolling stock maintenance technician

·  To fully participate and engage with the apprenticeship scheme, by completing all elements of the framework and structured local development plan, including nationally-recognised engineering qualifications, work-based skills training, health and safety training and a work placement rotational plan

·  To gain an understanding of the business unit, including its goals, vision, services, comprising departments, customers, and supply chain

·  To report to the shift supervisor and/or placement manager and take ownership for the completion of all allocated tasks to the best of your ability

·  To work towards personal goals and objectives set at regular learner reviews, and actively seek opportunities for personal and professional development

·  To fully participate and engage with the business’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) requirements

What do I need to qualify for this job?

·  A minimum of GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above.

·  Good communication skills, both written and verbal

·  Good organisational and time management skills

·  Good collaborative and team-working skills

What else do I need to know?
The apprenticeship is predominantly based at the local Rail Systems depot and local Partner College, however as part of the scheme you will be expected to travel from time to time to different sites for training and placements.
