SHS Professional Development 15-16

Below you will find the 8 PLCs that will be on-going for the 15-16 school year (9/3, 10/1, 11/5, 12/3, 1/14, 2/4, 3/3, 4/7). Each PLC will have specific objectives and outcomes that you collaboratively develop, along with facilitators to guide the process

PLC 1: Literacy – Ellen Lavan

– This PLC will focus on aligning curriculum and instruction to the Language Arts Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Training will include development of higher order thinking questions and strategies.

PLC 2: Math – Sebrina Brown

– This PLC will focus on aligning Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2 instruction and assessment to CCSS and EOCs and develop strategies to improve EOC/ACT/SAT/AP performance. The teachers will also focus on using reading strategies with informational text, higher order thinking questions/strategies and teaching using complex text.

PLC 3: Science – Simone Shim-Barnes

– This PLC will focus on item specifications for the Biology EOC, aligning curriculum and instruction to CCSS. Training will include development of higher order thinking questions and strategies to engage resistant learners.

PLC 4: Career Technical – Gabriel Andrews

- The PLC will focus on aligning curriculum, instruction and assessments to industry certification exams. Training will include integrating reading strategies using informational text.

PLC 5: Social Studies – Scott Fiore

-The PLC will focus on item specifications for the US History EOC and aligning curriculum, instruction and assessments. Training will include writing higher order questions and increasing rigor.

PLC 6: ESE – Robin Cope

- This PLC will focus on project based learning and utilizing reading strategies to improve learning. Training will include integrating technology in instruction, thinking maps, and parent support services.

PLC 7: World Languages – Madeline Betancourt-Ruiz

– The PLC will focus on vocabulary development and integrating reading strategies in curriculum and instruction. Training will include aligning instruction to CCSS.

PLC 8: Unified Arts – James Davidson

- The PLC will focus on integrating reading strategies in curriculum and instruction. Training will include aligning instruction to CCSS.
