SHRM Leadership Conference – Engage*Inspire*Lead – November 15 – 17
This year’s conference is gearing up to be a great one. Our keynote speakers, Kimberly Alyn and Cy Wakeman, will energize you as you prepare for your 2013 volunteer leader role. In addition, the Leadership Development sessions (checkout the website for additional information) offer additional topics you’ll enjoy.

Registration is a two-step process. Register online at http://www.shrm.org/conferences/leadership and make your hotel reservations by contacting Tammy Finnell (1-703-535-5109) directly as the host hotel is sold out. A credit card will be required to hold the reservation, even if the attendee qualifies for complimentary accommodations.

Marketing Tip of the Month: Your next member looks like your existing members.

It is really important for you to understand the demographics of your membership to help guide who you target in your recruitment campaigns. For example, look at the majority of the job titles of your current members and focus on reaching more of those in your area. Another idea is to analyze the industries your members work in. Lots of organizations think they will be wildly successful appealing to a brand new market, but it rarely works.

o  “Energize and Engage: How Inclusion Supercharges Employee Satisfaction and Performance”

o  Pre-approved by the HR Certification Institute for one hour of strategic re-certification credit.

o  Presentation explores the role of inclusion as a driver of job satisfaction and employee engagement and looks at recent research and real-world examples of how organizations with inclusive cultures are transforming themselves into great places to work.

Chapter and State Council Diversity CLA Directors are eligible for a 10% discount to the SHRM Diversity & Inclusion Conference. Those eligible for this discount have received information regarding how to access the discount when registering. The conference and exposition will be held October 22-24 in Chicago, IL.

Government Affairs:

Visibility Campaign

Leadership—leading people and leading organizations—is the theme of SHRM’s 2012 election-year visibility campaign, which includes a new 30-second television advertisement. The new TV spot is scheduled to air on CNN, Headline News, and CNN Airport News in late August through a week after Election Day. Chapters and State Councils can download the TV commercial for free, put it on their websites, show it at meetings and presentations, use it in their blogs, or use it as a discussion piece. SHRM Advocacy Team Educational Webcast Series

The SHRM Advocacy Team (A-Team) hosts monthly webinars regarding policies, tools and tactics that will make you a better, more informed advocate for SHRM and the HR profession.Hear about current issues from SHRM lobbyists, Hill staffers and other DC insiders.

The second plenary meeting for ISO TC 260 for Human Resource Management was held September 24th and 25th in Melbourne, Australia, in conjunction with the 14th World Human Resources Congress. Delegations of experts from nine countries met and discussed the work program for the technical committee developing global standards for human resource management.
