SHREWSBURY SCHOOL
OUTDOOR WEEK 2014
/

For Third Form parents only:

Outdoor Week (Sunday 8th – Friday 13th June)

With half term coming up, do ask your sons about Outdoor Week. They should return home knowing what it involves and perhaps with some preparation to do. Outdoor Week takes all Third Formers out of normal academic lessons and involves them in a varied and educational outdoor programme. For three days boys doing Bronze DofE will live under canvas in a 'base camp' in the lovely Shropshire Hills. Here they do their qualifying Bronze Expedition. The other three days are ‘school based’ and involve a day each of conservation work and leadership/team competition days.

Dayboys

Dayboy parents should note all programmes begin on the morning of Sunday 8th June. If your son is in Group B he will be away from home camping out on Sunday 8th and Monday 9th. If in Group A he will be away from home camping out on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th June. Lists showing which Group he is in are at http://www.shrewsbury.org.uk/page/outdoor-week

For those pupils not attempting Bronze – they will complete a canoe expedition down the River Severn over these first three days so will be camping out on Sunday 8th and Monday 9th. Thereafter they join the ‘school based’ programme for the remaining days to Friday.

Clothing and Equipment

Boys should by now have sorted their personal clothing and many have items on loan from our stores. We supply all tents, stoves, sleeping bags, first aid and safety equipment. Suggested kit lists for both DofE and non DofE are on the school website and this itemises what we can lend out –follow the link above.

Outdoor Week is great fun for all concerned – and is carefully positioned after examination handback and in the run up the end of term (but note there is a Careers Morning on Saturday 14th June to nicely round off the week).
