Bassmaster Classic Forum To Help

Local Businesses Prepare For Event

Coming To Area February 20-22

SHREVEPORT, La. – January 6, 2009 – The Super Bowl of bass fishing will reel into North Louisiana next month. With the Classic will come a large number of customers to spend money in our local community.

A free community forum to discuss the impact and importance of the 2009 Bassmaster Classic is scheduled 2-4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at the Bossier Civic Center, 620 Benton Road in Bossier City.

Billed as the Super Bowl of bass fishing, the Bassmaster Classic will come to town February 20-22 and will include special presentations of the anglers’ weigh-ins as well as hours of television coverage.

The forum will provide information to help businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and local attractions prepare for the Classic and the 60,000-plus fans it is expected to bring. The forum will be moderated by Jan Elkins of KTBS-Channel 3, and will feature presentations by the Shreveport Regional Sports Authority and the Shreveport-Bossier Convention & Tourist Bureau.

“This is a great opportunity for local businesses to learn about the Bassmaster Classic in order to be prepared for an event of this magnitude coming to our area,” said Mary Ann Tice, Executive Director of the Shreveport Regional Sports Authority. “The Classic typically draws bass-fishing fans from throughout the country. Having these fans in our community will have a significant economic benefit to hotels, restaurants, retailers and the many attractions in Northwest Louisiana.”

The Red River South Marina is the official launch site for the tournament and the CenturyTel Center is the weigh-in site and the ESPN broadcasting site. The 2009 Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo will be held at the Shreveport Convention Center and will feature more than 150 vendors. All are free and open to the public.
