Dear Applicants:

Your team is invited to participate in The Showdown Tournaments for the 2014-2015. We are pleased to invite previous and new teams to the 14th Annual Crabtown Showdown in Annapolis/Laurel, Maryland December 27-29, 2014, the24th Country & Western Showdown in Nashville, Tennessee March 6-8, 2015and March 13-15, 2015, and the 6th Annual Capital Showdown in Laurel MD on March 6-8, 2014. The 2014-15 tournament application forms are located on pages 5-10; teams must complete pgs 5-9 (10 is optional).

We would like to thank all of the teams that participating in the tournaments last year. The 5th Capital Showdown and 13th Crabtown Showdown hosted over70 teams for each event with representative teams from MD, PA, NY, VA, DE, NJ, NC, FL and OH. The 23rd Country & Western hosted some 110 teams from TN, KY, GA, SC, NC, IN, LA, MO, OH, IL, AL, MS, PA and FL. This year we will continue the multiple team and early bird registration discounts. We alsowill continue ADM Model for 8U Mite level competition. The structure of the ADM games is half ice rather than cross ice; meaning two games simultaneously from red line to goal line with bumper board separation at center ice. Every team and player also has the opportunity to participate in the Showdown Olympics.

Our family has been involved with running hockey tournaments since the early 1970’s. We want to offer more tournaments each year, but with full time professional jobs, running just a couple tournaments consumes most of our personal time. Our vision is to be the best hockey tournaments in North America by providing each player and family a fun-filled weekend and a lasting memory for years to come. To realize this vision we need your support and commitment. Our one request is that the whole family actively participates in the tournament events and takes advantage of the opportunities available to you in the Annapolis/Laurel, MD and Nashville, TN areas. We encourage teams to focus on the fun and competitive nature of the game rather than winning and losing. To effectively organize the tournament events we ask that teams apply and submit all application forms by the deadline so we can better schedule game times, confirm hotel room accommodations, and provide each team ample time to plan their extracurricular activities.

Sincerely,

Brian & Whitney Harrington

Communications

We encourage all communications be done through email to receive the best customer service from Showdown Tournaments. Send all emails to . All emails should contain in the subject line: team name, level, & brief description. For example: Amherst Knights-Squirt A-Application or Amherst Knights-Squirt A-Hotel Change. Please choose one team contact to correspond with Showdown Tournaments about the tournament and application process. Each team contact will act as the liaison person between their team and tournament director for all questions, concerns, or other matters. We encourage team contacts to address questions in a single email rather than multiple emails or phone calls. We greatly appreciate your assistance in streamlining communications.

Host Hotels

All teams are required to stay at the host hotels provided by the tournament except for local teams (1 hour or less commute from their home arena). Host hotels agree to be a sponsor of the tournament which provides financial support for meeting tournament expenses. We will issue a list of hotels four weeks prior to the tournament date and hotels will provide room confirmations two-three weeks prior to the tournament date. Please remember the tournament books the rooms, teams are not to book rooms on their own behalf. Credit cards are needed to secure rooms; typically the team provides one credit card up front and changes them to personal family credit cards once the team receives its confirmations numbers from the hotel. We do not have complimentary rooms for coaches or managers at the host hotels so please do not inquire with hotel for such a room. We do try to provide a complimentary hospitality room if the hotel has such a room and it is available during the tournament dates. We do not have complimentary rooms for managers and coaches.

Tournament Rules

See website for specific rules at

Screening

Showdown Tournaments takes ever effort to place teams in competitive divisions. Competitive classification systems (AAA, AA, A, A1, A2, B, B1, B2, C, House Select, and recreational/house) vary or have different meanings from area to area throughout the United States. Expect to encounter teams that may have different eligibility rules or classification systems that may not necessarily correspond to what you are accustomed to in your particular area. Further there will be teams that move up or down a classification based on their overall record. To make our decisions, we utilize records available on various internet sites, the team record form submitted with your application, phone interviews with team managers and coaches, conversations with other teams in your league and outside your league, and the hockey community at large. This effort takes countless hours! The screening process begins three months prior t the tournament and takes approximately two-three months to complete. At the completion of the screening process we issue a tournament game schedule and finalize the hotel placement for all teams. This typically occurs three to four weeks prior to the actual tournament date.

Games & Periods(Squirts, Peewees, Bantams, Midgets, and High School)

All teams are guaranteed four games. Divisions structured with four or six teams will play different formats with a four game maximum, while an eight team division will be guaranteed four games with a five game maximum for those teams advancing to the championship game. Squirt, peewee and bantams play 13 minute periods, and midgets play 14 minute periods. Please note the tournament begins 9am Friday and ends 7pm on Sunday (all tournaments, except Crabtown Saturday-Monday); however we will try start later on the first day and end sooner on the last day of the tournament based on ice availability and number of teams. All teams must be flexible with game times and be prepared to play at the earliest scheduled time on the first day and latest game on last day. Teams traveling by plane or bus should plan for earliest game time on first day and latest game on last day. Please note that all games times are final, there is no flexibility to add game slots or move teams around. The game schedule does consider travel distance, time gaps between games, and an even distribution ofmorning, afternoon, and evening games.

ADM Mite Games(8U)

Mites will play two 24 minute periods with a buzzer every 2 minutes. Game structure is half ice rather than cross ice, meaning two games simultaneously from red line to goal line with bumper board separation at center ice.

Awards & Activities

Allteams making the championship game receive individual awards and championship team receives a banner. Teams participating in the Showdown Olympics receive a tournament souvenir and teams placing in first, second, or third will receive tournament medals. We also invite all playersto partake exchanging pins with other teams and players during the tournament weekend.

TournamentSouvenirs

Showdown Tournaments encourages all participants and families to preordersouvenirs. These items includepins (several unique styles), tournament t-shirts, mini hockey sticks, pucks, jewelry, and more. Prior to coming all teams have the opportunity to pre-order souvenirs at discounted prices.
