MTWARA / Culture and Arts / Work: Working with women handcrafts groups and carving makers. Drumming, dancing and arts classes to be conducted by locals to the volunteers. Others will be learning, sharing knowledge and doing some creativity expressions and performing arts and music.
Extra activities: Teaching craft and drawing to the children in the community.
Study: The role of arts in society. (MDG:1)
Week end: Options for week end activities are:- historical sites tour along old Boma, Mikindani, Slave market, Msanga Mkuu peninsula where you will experience typical coastal culture. Swimming and fishing tour might be another exciting activity to do. Wild animal’s lovers can also make trip to SelousNational Park, one of the biggest National parks in the country.

MTWARA / Girl child education and women empowerment / Work: Volunteers will be involved in construction of primary school class rooms to allow girls access to education.
Extra activity: organize sports and games to young girl. Volunteers will also organize debate with secondary school students.

Volunteers will as well work with primary schools in the area to raise awareness of conservation which will include establishment of tree nurseries and environmental awareness campaigns

MTWARA / Sports for community development / Work: Volunteers will be involved in organisation and coaching various sports to the young people from the age of 12-16 in school and out of school. At the end the project, they will be sports festival in the community to award to the winning teams.

KILIMANJARO / Social welfare, Poverty and Alienation / Work: Providing material assistance and emotional support to HIV positive children and adult. Support to senior citizens will be also part of the activities (Working at home and doing. various activities).
Extra activity: Working with widows in income generation activities to support their families. Also organizing games and sports for orphanage kids in the community.

TEMEKE / Youth alienation and marginalized groups / Work: Volunteer will be helping teaching English language to the adult education class. Students’ will be beginners and they range from 18-27 years old.
Extra activity: Planning and coaching sports, games and crafts to the kids from the age of 3-6 years in the afternoons
Study: Welfare of the marginalized groups.(MDG:1)
Week end: Options are week end Safari to view wild animals at MikumiNational Park, over night in Zanzibar, swimming and historical sites tour in Bagamoyo among many others.

Program fee and related cost

Volunteers or their sponsoring organizations are responsible for the cost of transportation from their home communities to the projects and return, Vaccination, medical expenses, Visa and other relevant immigration papers application and processing, Pocket money, free time/Leisure time activities, meals and accommodation expenses outside the host community/Program activities. Specific costs to be known are:

  1. Program fee: US$250
  2. Orientation fee: US$20
  3. Transport from UVIKIUTA center to the Project community (To be provided in the information sheet, depending on the distance)
  4. Pick up from the meeting point to UVIKIUTA center- US$10
  5. Pick up from airport: US$35 (Optional)
  6. Bed and breakfast at UVIKIUTA center- US$20 (Optional)

How to get to the projects?

Volunteers will be picked at Luther house l located along Sokoine drive Dar es Salaam, next to Azania Front Lutheran Cathedral on the first day of the Workcamp at 14:00hrs.
