ASSEMBLY WELDER A/B/C

Overall Scope of the Position:
The Assembly Welder is responsible for completing the structural welds of a pressure vessel within tolerances and as per weld procedures specified. The Assembly Welder uses both sub-arc welding and manual welding to complete the structural joints. Individuals designated in an “A” position will have relatively greater experience and skill at performing the tasks of the position than those designated in a “B” position. Individuals designated in a “B” position will have relatively greater experience and skill at performing the tasks of the position than those designated in a “C” position.
Key Responsibilities and Authority:
Monitoring the work area to ensure safe working conditions and taking corrective action when required.
Maintaining the general organization and tidiness of the work area.
Reading blueprints including checking print for weld sizes, proper preheat, type of consumable to be deposited, etc.
Operating overhead crane - moving shells, heads, vessel bodies, sub-arc units and other materials in a safe manner. Observing weights, rigging and personnel.
Completing pressure welds on pressure vessels. Welds to be free of undercut, slag, spatter and be neat in appearance. Cleaning and stamping welds before end of shift. Performing pick ups as work progresses to ensure that there is no work to be done after final inspection.
Completing other welds and weld activities - gouging, grinding, fixing, stamping and cleaning welds.
Sub-arc and stick welding - preheating rod wire, completing a clean sound x-ray weld inside and out.
Fitting nozzles and/or internals and externals.
Manually completing “root pass” if needed.
Assisting in the movement of raw materials, work in progress, completed parts, and tools and equipment within the team area.
Cleaning including cleaning splatter, blending or welding and grinding nicks, gouges, hammer marks, etc.
Welding non-pressure parts.
Operating cranes, all sub-arc machines, alligator, automatic gouger, and following all welding procedures.
Tacking, grinding, preheating tacks (welding large enough tacks so they will not crack when preheated).
Repairing equipment and cleaning up including returning tools to toolboard, cleaning up work area before end of shift, and reporting broken equipment and performing troubleshooting (if possible).
Skills Required or Developed:
Valid Journeyman Trade Certificate recognized in the province of Alberta.
Alberta B-Pressure certificate required.
Operating overhead crane.
Operating forklift.
Reading blueprints.
Rigging.
MIG and TIG welding.
Sub-Arc operation.
Fitting.
