1st Buckinghamshire TM: Ian Douse
2nd Yorkshire TM: John Foster
3rd Warwickshire TM: Pete Chapman
4th Cheshire TM: Alan Minihan
5th Hertfordshire TM: Pat Walker
6th Hampshire TM: Alan & Shirley Baker
7th Suffolk TM: Lisa Jacobs
8th Avon TM: Jane Manley
By twenty past ten in the morning the tournament was in full swing, with the usual high level of competitiveness and degree of skill. Hertfordshire got off to a good start against Yorkshire and were winning 4-3 at one time; the final result was 12-8 in Yorkshire’s favour. The top four seeds won their first match with the exception of Hampshire, who narrowly lost to Warwickshire 11-9. It did not help Hampshire’s plight to be short of the services of Kelvin Latimer.
The second round did not bring any great surprises or significantly close games. Yorkshire and Buckinghamshire won their matches to give them a place in the finals for 1st and 2nd positions.
In contrast the third round was extremely close with matches offering 1st to 4th positions both drawing 10-10 on rubbers. A very surprised Buckinghamshire team manager was delighted to beat Yorkshire by 24 points, while Warwickshire did very well to come from behind and clinch victory with 34 points to spare.
Hertfordshire and Hampshire had a battle for 5th and 6th position and although Hertfordshire won in games, Hampshire won on points, but as games count first, Hertfordshire took 5th position.
Ian Rizzotto commended the majority of players on their excellent standard of play and conduct during the day and thanked the team managers for their support in ensuring that once the again the Shires League Final was a great success.
