Requirements to Ride Fire Apparatus as an Exterior Firefighter:

·  Complete New Member Checklist

·  Hazardous Material Operations Level Responder,(An online Awareness Level Course is acceptable until the responder is able to attend an Operation Level Course)

·  CPR

·  Approved by Station Chief

Job objectives of an Exterior Firefighter: “Includes All Junior Members”

·  Operational Duties shall be limited to exterior operations, working under the direct supervision of the Incident Commander, Unit Officer or Driver/Operator.

·  The member shall not be counted towards apparatus staffing.

·  The member shall not operate in an IDLH atmosphere or within the collapse zone of an incident.

·  The member shall not donn SCBA for operational use, except for training.

·  The member shall concede their seat to any interior member should there be no other seats available on the apparatus.

·  The member shall have identification on their helmet that identifies the individual as an exterior firefighter.

Requirements to Ride Fire Apparatus as an Interior Firefighter:

·  Complete Entry Level Firefighter Curriculum.

·  Hazardous Material Operational Level.

·  CPR/AED

Job objectives of an Interior Firefighter:

·  The member can act as a part of team performing search/rescue, fire attack, and ventilation.

·  The member can operate SCBA in IDLH Atmosphere.

·  The member needs to work directly with the unit officer.

This Check off serves only as certification that the individual has been oriented to the equipment location and usage on Vigilant Hose Company apparatus. This certification makes no reference to the firefighting capabilities of the individual.

**Required certification is required for interior firefighting.
