Dear Community Members and Friends,

The Girls Club of Greenfield is very different from the organization and vision of 1895. Wow! That is one hundred and twenty-two years ago! But itsays something to the success of this non-profit corporation.

My first knowledge of the Club came when I was in elementary school and I walked from home to the then Pleasant Street site in Greenfield for after school activities. Under the direction of Helen Roberts, I learned to knit and cook and remember making many friends.

When our children were young and my youngest son turned three, it was time for me to return to the work force. I looked to the Girls Club for a nursery school. Teacher Rita Bennett provided his early education for two years. Our son couldn’t have had a better place to prepare for public school.

When our daughter looked for summer employment as a high school student, she worked as a Life Guard and Camp Counselor at Camp Lion Knoll. She enjoyed working with the summer campers so much she went on to become a health and physical education teacher.

The Girls Club looks different from its early roots and yet in many ways, it’s the same. Adedicated staff continues to provide an atmosphere of learning, fun and creativity. Girlsand boys learn about playing and working together respectfully. And today more than ever, working parentsdepend on the Club and its branches Valley Play School and Camp Lion Knoll, for quality programs. Our mission of working withchildren from all backgrounds but especially at-risk children makes our organization all the more valuable and we know that for many of our at-risk children, their time at the Girls Club is the best part of their day.

As we look to the future, our needs are many as old buildings need attention and we continue our long term project of getting Stonehenge up and running for girls’ programs.

The Girls Club has been an important part of this community for 122 years and the world has certainly changed in that time. Butone thing has not – the need for community help.

Please join me in giving an on-line donation or complete the enclosed pledge card today so we can continue this important work.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the children and the staff, THANK YOU!
