Organic 3# Golden Delicious Apples

RAW MATERIALS

QUALITY REQUIREMENTS: / All apples should be certified USDA Organic. Beyond that, the following points should be particularly noted. All apples must be free of dirt or other extraneous matter. They should show no visible scarring, pitting, stem punctures, cuts, bug damage, skin discoloration, bruising, or decay of any kind on the surface of the apples.
VARIETIES: / Golden Delicious
MATURITY / CONDITION: / It is required that all apples pressure test with pressure no less than 12 pounds on the large probe, with ideal pressure being 16 pounds. To insure the desired pressure upon receipt, C.A. apples should be introduced no later than December 15.
TOLERANCE: / In a random sampling of ten cases, no more than 12 bags should be found out of specification. This could be defined as not more than a 10% tolerance for combined defects. No tolerance for decay.
SHAPE / COLOR: / All fruit should be well formed and consistent with the characteristics of the variety. Fruit should have a yellowish green to bright yellow color surface. Full yellow color is preferred. Up to 30% reddish blush is allowed. No green apples are allowed.
TASTE TEXTURE: / The taste should be characteristic of the variety with no foreign taste or odors that would indicate a contamination.

PACKAGING

CONTAINER TYPE: / Cardboard, closed carton. It is preferred to have each the top of each case taped/glued closed, but staples can also be used. Each carton should have a cushioned protective lining between layers to prevent excessive bruising during transit.
WEIGHT: / Each box should weigh no less than 36 pounds net, and each bag should weigh no less than 3.05 lbs. Net. Daily weight checks at the point of packing are strictly required.
LABELING: / With required legal information.
PACK SIZE: / 36 lbs. net weight per case.

PALLETIZATION

All product must be received on a 40" x 48" four way, hard wood pallet. Each pallet should contain 25 cases within the dimensions of the pallet. The "tie" would be 5 cases per layer and the "high" would be no more than 5 cases.

COLD CHAIN

All apples should be pre-cooled to 35 degrees prior to dispatch and delivered in a temperature-controlled vehicle. The pulp temperature on receipt at the distribution center should not be less than 32 degrees or more than 40 degrees with an optimum of

35 degrees. A Ryan Recorder is required on all direct loads.

PRODUCT LIFE

Product should give at least 14 days life upon receipt at the SuperValu Distribution facility.
