NEW INFORMATION

Welcome Back

It is certainly great to see all of the students back in the building. The staff has worked hard to prepare for the arrival of the students. The floors have been waxed, the desks have been cleaned, shipments of materials have been unpacked, and the teacher’s lounge has been buzzing with faculty sharing new ideas. The doors opened and it was official-We have begun! It is always exciting to see what the new year brings. Open house will be held

September 1, 2009 and is a great opportunity to visit with your child’s teacher.

Caspar Receipts

Caspar’s is offering a new rewards program for their customers. SCES will no longer be able to redeem points from the Caspar’s receipts. We would like to thank everyone for their support. Our school has been able to purchase many different items over the years because of this program. Please continue to submit your box top labels, Campbell soup labels, and ink cartridges to the clear container in front of the office.

Parent Right to Know

It is a requirement that the district lets parents know their rights due to the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law for all Title I schools. This notification lets you, as parents know that you may request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers, including, at a minimum, the following:

  • Whether the teacher has met State Qualifications and licensing

criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;

  • Whether the teachers are teaching under emergency or other

provisional status through which State qualification or licensing have been waived;

  • The baccalaureate degree major of the teachers and any other

graduate certification or degree held by the teachers, and the

field of discipline of the certification or degree; and

  • Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

All of the ScottCity district teachers working with students at this time are highly qualified. USD 466 SCESSchool looks forward to working with you this year. If you have further questions about the Title I program, teacher qualification, or Title I services, please contact the Title I teachers, Elementary principal or the Superintendent of Schools.

Challenge Question

Each week there will be a Challenge Question for the students in the Fridge Notes. Students wanting to participate should submit the answer to the clear container in front of the office on Monday of the following week. The answer to the Challenge Question will be in the new week’s Fridge Notes.

First Question: What was served for lunch on the first full day of school?

New Staff Member

Laura Heyd is our new Title I Reading teacher. We are excited to have Ms. Heyd here at SCES.

Pre-school Grant

We would like to send a big thank you toSmart Start for the grant awarded to Mrs. Hutchins 4 year old at-risk preschool for $600. The grant will be used to purchase a new Math curriculum and materials.

Traffic

The safety of our students is a top priority. During drop off and pick up times we ask that you follow the traffic procedures. The first two lanes of traffic can drop off and pick up students at the same time. Please wait to release your child until you have reached the crosswalk. The outside lane can be used as a passing lane only. All three lanes of traffic must stop at the stop sign. Students will be crossing, so please proceed with caution and watch for signals from the teacher directing traffic. Our goal is to keep all of our students safe.

Breakfast

Breakfast will be served from 7:30-7:50 a.m. Students planning to eat breakfast should arrive early enough so that they can eat and be in the classroom ready to learn by 8:00 a.m.
