Logging in

  1. To login please use the following URL:

You can use any web browser to edit pages in SharePoint 2013 edit the website externally (off-campus), if required. We recommend the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox if you have these installed.

  1. This will take you to the ‘staging server where you can edit pages on the external website.
  2. When login is successful, you will see your name at the top-right of the screen. The cog icon next to your name replaces the old ‘Site Actions’ button used on the old website.

Creating a new page

  1. Navigate to the area of the website where you want to create a new page.
  1. Click the cog icon and select ‘Add a page’
  1. Give your new page a name and click Create.
  1. Your new page will open in Edit mode. You can now choose your preferred page layout by clicking on the Page tab from the top menu and then Page Layout from the Page Actions menu group.

Editing a page

  1. To edit a page either click the Page > Edit on the left menu or click the Edit icon on the top right-hand side:

  1. When you have chosen a suitable template you can add copy to your webpage in the Page Content box.

You can type directly in to this box or copy and paste from software like Microsoft Word or emails. If you find that font and formatting change, choose ‘Paste clean’ from the Paste Options box or copying in to Notepad first and then your webpage.

  1. Depending on your chosen Page Layout you’ll have various options for additional content that can be added into your page, including:
  • Photos or images
  • Image captions
  • Embedded video (eg. From YouTube or Vimeo)
  • Embedded web forms

Adding Hyperlinks

  1. SharePoint will automatically detect hyperlinks for websites and emails if they are in the following format: or
  1. To add a hyperlink to a word or sentence highlight the text and click the Insert tab at the top of the page. Choose From SharePoint if you are linking to another webpage on the Cardiff Met website, or From Address if you are linking elsewhere.

If you click From SharePoint you’ll be given the option to browse for the web page or document.

  1. Once you’ve added a link, if you select it you’ll see an additional tab called Link. You can use the options available here to customise your hyperlink properties.
  1. When you have finished editing the page and want to preview your changes, click the button on the toolbar called ‘Check In’.

You can use the Save button to save progress while you are editing, however please remember that if you do not click Check In other users will not be able to edit the page.

Uploading Documents

  1. Click The Cog > Site Contents
  1. Click Documents


  1. Click ‘new document’
  1. Choose a file and click ok

Then click ‘Save’

Uploading Images

  1. Click The Cog > Site Contents
  1. Click Images

  1. Click ‘New Item’

  1. Choose a file and click ok

Then click ‘Save’

  1. Choose a Title and click Save
