Public Announcement Regarding the Selection and Engagement of the New Panel of

Arbitrators and Mediators

Approved by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government in 1988, the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (also known as the Shanghai International Arbitration Center, hereinafter referred to as “SHIAC”) was established through a formal procedure and legally registered, and has been acting as an independent, impartial, professional and efficient arbitration institute all along.

With 30 years of development, SHIAC has delivered resolution to disputants all over China and in more than 70 countries and regions across the world. At the same time, the impartiality of SHIAC’s arbitration awards has been widely recognized by the parties at home and abroad. SHIAC always persists in the international development strategy. It has successively established China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Court of Arbitration, Shanghai International Aviation Court of Arbitration, BRICS Dispute Resolution Shanghai Center, China-Africa Joint Arbitration Center Shanghai and other professional platforms. With continuous improvement of international and professional arbitration practice, SHIAC is dedicated to building a world-oriented Asia-Pacific International Arbitration Center.

SHIAC has established Panels of Arbitrators and Panels of Mediators. The current appointment term of SHIAC’s arbitrators and mediators will expire soon. According to the Charter of SHIAC and other provisions, it will select a new term of arbitrators and mediators open to the public.

First, the scope of the selection and the duration of the engagement

Based in the Yangtze-river Delta, SHIAC expects application from all around China and overseas.

The duration of the engagement of the arbitrators and mediators is 3 years.

Second, the qualification of the selection and engagement

The applicant should be capable, keen to arbitration practice, fair and decent, also conform to Article 13 of PRC’s Arbitration Law and abide by SHIAC’s rules and regulations concerning arbitrators and mediators. In principle, the applicants shall be under 70 years old (Exception can be made when an applicant is highly experienced and reputed in a certain field).


The application for either arbitrator or mediator is not subjected to geography or nationality restrictions. SHIAC welcomes the qualified professionals from both home and abroad to apply.

Third, the process of the selection and engagement

1. Application

The applicant needs to fill in the application form for arbitrators and mediators of Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shanghai International Arbitration Center), and tick the last column of the application form for choosing the position of arbitrator and/or mediator.[1]

2. Qualification review

The documents of application will enter into the proposed-to- engage list of arbitrator and mediator after passing the qualification review of SHIAC’s Selection and Disciplinary Committee.

3. Engagement

The proposed-to-engage applicants will be listed in the new panel of arbitrators and/or mediators and announced to the public after passing the deliberation of the plenary session of the third committee of SHIAC.

Forth, matters needing attention

1. The new arbitrator and/or mediator applicant need to fill in the Application form for arbitrators and mediators of Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shanghai International Arbitration Center) (both paper and electronic versions are required).

2. Since SHIAC has set up Shanghai International Aviation Court of Arbitration, the additional remarks of specialty in the application column are appreciated for the applicant in relevant industry or with expertise in these areas.

3. At the same time, the applicant also needs to submit two 2-inch, blue-background, bareheaded color photos and its electronic version, the proof of identity, the degree certificate, qualification and other copies.

4. After the qualification review, organization inspection, filing and other related procedures, SHIAC will announce to the public the new panel of arbitrators and mediators through the official website, Wechat public platform and other media.

[1] The Panel of Mediators is established according to the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Arbitration Rules of SHIAC in respect of “Mediation by Mediator”. The mediators of SHIAC are constituted by arbitrators listed in the Panel of Arbitrators and mediators specially listed on the Panel of Mediators.
