Assignment #11E

DIMENSIONING

Objective:

The student will construct a complete orthographic drawing of an assigned problem and adding Ordinate (arrowless) dimensioning using the CAD system.

Assignment:

Complete the assigned orthographic drawing problem by adding dimensions according to the given parameters below. Copy the file EDD12145.DWG to your WORKING DISK.

Create the following layers for the dimensions with a color of the student's own selection (HOLE-A, HOLE-B, HOLE-C, HOLE-D, HOLE-E, PLATE). Be sure to include these layers on the CAD Drawing Document Sheet.

Set the Standard dimensioning style to the following parameters

In the Annotation ribbon select the Style option and create a new dimension style. Make this style current.

In the Lines section:

Set the Baseline Spacing for 0.25

Set the Extend Beyond Dim Lines value to 0.125

Set the Offset from origin value to 0.0625

In the Symbols and Arrows section:

(Choose an arrowhead style)

Set the Arrow Size to 0.125

Set the center marks to None

In the Text Section:

Set the Text height value to 0.125

Set Vertical to "centered."

Set the Horizontal to "centered."

Set the text alignment to "Horizontal"

In the Fit Section:

Set the fit to "either the text or the arrows, whichever fits best"

Set to “Beside the Dimension Line”

In the Primary Units Section:

Set the Unit Format to Decimal

Set the Precision to 0.000

A new origin must be established from the primary datum, which is the lower left corner of the object. Type the command UCS. When prompted pick the lower left corner of the object to establish a new origin.

Apply the given dimensions using the Ordinate option in the Annotation ribbon. Set the current layer to HOLE-A and add the dimensions to locate the center of HOLE-A. Set the current layer to HOLE-B and add the dimensions to locate the centers of the B-holes. Continue adding the dimensions for the remaining holes and the plate. It is permissible to place dimensions over dimensions since several of the holes share a common center line.

Assignment #11E

Dimensioning will be in accordance with the rules and techniques as described in the textbook Engineering Graphics. Review dimension text locations and dimension line spacing.

Add the text to the Hole Schedule. Use the TEXT command with the MIDDLE justification to place the text.

Plot the finished drawing.

Evaluation:

Refer to the PROJECT EVALUATION handout for the required items to be turned in for evaluation.
