Serving Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont for 28 years

January 2017

Dear Risk Management Colleague,

Welcome to the Northern New England Society for Healthcare Risk Management, NNESHRM. We are looking forward to another great year of celebrating our profession, sharing knowledge, and creating a strong network with each other! If you are a returning member, you are well aware of the value of membership, and the resource we are to our members. If you are a new member, I hope you will soon come to realize all the knowledge, collegial support and fun we share as members of this chapter. Our chapter is comprised of members from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. We are an independent chapter of ASHRM, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management. If you are not a member of ASHRM, I encourage you to explore what they have to offer as our national professional organization for healthcare risk management. The easiest way is to check out their website at

The mission of NNESHRM is to develop, advance and enhance the professional practice of healthcare risk management in order to promote the safety and quality of health services, while protecting the financial assets of health care facilities from preventable loss. We are dedicated to:

Conducting educational programs and activities to promote professional development in the area of risk management

Supporting the interchange of ideas and methodologies among health care professionals

Promoting professional relationships among Society members

Members of the society include risk managers, attorneys, insurance company representatives, brokers, quality improvement professionals, and patient safety team members dedicated to promoting the philosophy and strategy of risk management.

As a member of NNESHRM, you will have access to:

Educational Offerings to promote professional development in the diverse field of healthcare risk management. We typically offer two local offerings each year, one in the spring, and one in the fall. Our fall education day will include our Annual Meeting. This meeting includes announcing the Board for 2015 and the winner the Polly Gagnon Award, which goes to chapter member who has distinguished themselves in promoting the chapter, the profession of risk management as a whole and in the development of other risk managers.

The 27th Annual New England Regional Healthcare Risk Management Conference, to be held April 30, 2017 – May 2, 2017 in Mystic, CT. The Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Northern New England Associations join forces each year to coordinate this opportunity for education and networking. Outside of the national ASHRM conference, this is one of THE premier risk management conferences of the year. All educational offerings provide CEU’s approved by ASHRM for CPHRM, FASHRM and DFASHRM designations. As a NNESHRM member, you will receive a discount on the registration.

Our association continues to grow and we have seen our membership peak recently at 125. Please contact me, or any other Board Member, if you have a new idea or suggestion as tohow NNESHRM can be of further benefit to you and your professional career. The Board strives to meet the needs of all of our members, and is always looking for new faces and ideas, so please, speak up and let us know, and get involved! Please consider joining one of our committees, such as Education, Bylaws, or Finance. We have many fun and enriching activities planned this year, and look forward to having you help us move into the future stronger and providing greater value to our members. Finally, I look forward to meeting you in person at one of our upcoming events!
