Loyal Heights Elementary PTA will be hosting its annual fundraising auction onSat., March 11that the Fisher Pavilion in the Seattle Center. The auction is from 4:30 to 11:00 pm. Volunteers can sign up help for either the whole or part of the event. The auction is a fun event and the school's largest fundraiser of the year. Dinner and snacks will be provided. The Pacific Science Center is looking for volunteers for a special exhibit. Deadline to apply is Wed., March 15th. Terracotta Warriors of the First Emperor, a one-of-a-kind special exhibition is premieringfor a five-month run beginning in April. A volunteer in this exhibit would help guide guests through the fascinating history and science behind the discovery of the underground warriors. They would be an integral part of our Special Exhibit team, sharing their enthusiasm for science and history, all the while ensuring our guests are enjoying this exhibit to its fullest capacity. Do you want to be a Youth Ocean Advocate at the Seattle Aquarium this summer? They are looking for passionate high school students who have an interest in learning about the ocean and will work to inspire others to take conservation action. If this might be a good fit for you, plan to attend a mandatory orientation at 1483 Alaskan Way Pier 59 on either Sat., March 11th from 11 a.m. to noon. or Wed., March 15th from 6-7 p.m. where you will get an in-depth overview of the program and receive an application. To reserve a spot for one of the orientations or to ask questions, email and tell them your name, grade and which orientation you want to attend. Discovery Park’s Nature Day Camp is accepting applications for the summer 2017 Junior Naturalist Program.Deadline to apply is Wed., March 8th. They are looking for volunteers (13-16 years old) to assistant their Environmental Educators during the summer Nature Day Camp as children hike, explore and learn about Discovery Park. If you are a high school girl, age 16 or older, looking for service hours and/or leadership development opportunities, consider volunteering as a Practice Partner for Girls on the Run of Puget Sound.Girls on the Run is an after-school program at elementary schools (including schools in Ballard, Magnolia, Queen Anne and Greenwood) designed to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Practice Partners help with a team of 8-15 girls by assisting the coaches with the lessons and workouts. Practice Partners are asked to volunteer for a minimum of six practices and attend the end-of-season 5K, a minimum of 15 volunteer hours. Soulumination,located within walking distance from BHS, celebrates the lives of children and parents facing life-threatening conditions by providing professional photographs of these special individuals and their families, free of charge. They can always use volunteers who are responsible, focused, detail-oriented, familiar with Microsoft Office, and good at arts & crafts to help with these tasks:creating handmade cards, assembling photo gifts for families, assisting with mailings & data entry, organizing & updating files, and working on art projects. Ballard Community Center (6020 28th Ave. NW) needs volunteers on Sat., March 23rd for the Daddy Daughter Dinner. This is their largest event of the year, with dinner, dancing, crafts and activities. Volunteers can come for the entire event beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m. or come for a shift. Jobs include helping with decorations, tables, crafts, games, dishes and general clean up. You can also come the evening of March 10th to help with set up or volunteer as part of a group in the weeks leading up to help stuff goody bags or make center pieces. Volunteer at the Big Climb!Join the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as a volunteer at the Big Climb! On Sun., March 26th, 6,000 participants will CLIMB 1,311 steps and CONQUER 788ft of vertical elevation all in the name of a CURE for blood cancer. The Big Climb takes place at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle and culminates on the highly acclaimed observation deck with breathtaking views of the entire Puget Sound region. This climb supports the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, raising funds through sponsorships, participant fundraising, and entry fees for patient/family services as well as funding of cutting edge research. Would you like to help people with disabilities ride horses?Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center, in Redmond, is looking for volunteers to assist their riders and horses, help around the barn or other jobs at the center. No horse experience or knowledge of working with people with disabilities is necessary because they provide training. A six-month commitment to a 2-hour weekly shift is required. The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is taking applications now for their summer 2017 programs. The deadline is Fri., April 7th. The two options are:1) Regional Crews: Washington State – Volunteer ( These crews are all expenses-paid, 15-day trips to some of the most spectacular national parks in the country (Mt. Rainier, Olympic, North Cascades, or San Juan Islands). Each crew will consist of 8 students and 2 leaders, living in the park and doing various restoration projects such as trail maintenance work. By participating, students will earn at least 70 hours of service credit.2) Summer Community Crews: Seattle or Edmonds – Paid ( These crews are paid, 6-week commuting crews. Crews consist of 10 youth who are required to commute to their worksite each day, five full days a week. Along with two leaders, the crews will work on trail maintenance and other restoration projects in local Seattle parks. Students will have the opportunity to learn leadership skills, job readiness skills, restoration techniques, and local ecology.

The Ballard Food BankWeekend Food for Kids program is looking for students to be consistent helpers at “repacking parties” that happen every Monday 4-6 p.m.at 5130 Leary Ave. NW. Klippan Lodge, a primarily Scandinavian organization that is over 100 years old, is looking for teens, of either Scandinavian or other ethnicity, who want to get involved with the lodge. Klippan is one of four local Order of Vasa Lodges left in the greater Seattle area. Their business meetings happen at the Swedish Club (on Queen Anne) once monthly on the second Sunday from 1:30-3 p.m. ---March 12th this month. Students can learn about many things in the club including how to do genealogy searches and how to conduct a business meeting. There is a free meal after the meeting. On your 2-hour early release day, Wed, March 22nd, you can sign up for a tech mentoring work party. You will help teach seniors how to use their smart phones, tablets and laptops from 2:30 to 4PM at the Greenwood Senior Center (525 N 85th St.)You would not have to fill out an application or do a background check. The First Annual “Running of the Beavers” is a 5K Run/Walk event to benefit the Ballard High School Foundation with all net proceeds going to Ballard High School.The run/walk will take place Sat., April 1st at Golden Gardens and Shilshole – the home of the Beavers. Join Nature Consortiumon Sat., March 4th, 18th or 25thfrom 10am-2pm for work parties in the West Duwamish Greenbelt. Sign up at Volunteers must RSVP at least 24 hours in advance in order to be emailed the location of the work party. Volunteers under 18 need to fill out and bring theyouth waiver form.

Join SCA-Northwest as they work to create healthy forests at Maplewood Playfield (4801 Corson Ave S.) on Sat., March 18thfrom 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wear long pants and closed-toe sturdy shoesand bring a reusable water bottle. The event will take place rain or shine so dress for theweather. SCA will provide coffee, hearty snacks, project materials and gloves. Volunteer alongside the current cohort of SCA’s Conservation Leadership Corps (School-Year) members as they work to restore healthy habitat. SCA crew members and the public will be volunteering to connect with each other and contribute to a park's healthy ecosystem. Attention all book lovers! There are three ways that you can help the Friends of the Seattle Public Library. 1)You can be a volunteer working in the Central Library gift shop (1000 4th Ave.). Most volunteer shift commitments are 3-4 hours once a week. The Friends of Salmon Bay Auction is happening on Sat., April 1stat the North Seattle Community College, in the Wellness Center. Are you interested in volunteering with preschool-aged children in an outdoor setting? Tiny Trees Preschool is looking for teens to volunteer at Carkeek Park after school during the school year and/or next summer. You can work from 3:30-4:30 M-F during the school year or 8:30a.m.-12:30p.m.or 1:30p.m.-4:30p.m.in the summer. A commitment of 4-8 weeks is preferred. Volunteer at Vegfest! Vegfest 2017, run by Vegetarians of Washington-- a local volunteer-based non-profit organization--, is happening on Sat., April 1st and Sun., April 2nd from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall on Mercer Street. They organize the biggest vegetarian food festival in the country and need hundreds of volunteers. They will be handing out 500 different kinds of healthy vegetarian free food samples, have doctors and dietitians speaking on nutrition topics, chefs cooking demonstrations, authors signing books and a special kids program. You do not need to be a vegetarian to volunteer. The NW Children’s Fund is having their biggest fundraiser of the year on Saturday, April 29th at Fremont Studios (155 N 35th Street, 98103). They need many volunteers,especially teens with lots of energy and passion. Positions available at the Gala Auction include raffle sellers, coat check, silent auction attendants and closers, packaging and check-out, live auction runners (our auctioneer is John Curley!), and more. Shifts start at 3:45pm with training and a free dinner. Doors open at 5:15pm for a busy event wrapping up in most jobs around 10pm. Dress is festive. They hope to raise over $600,000 to help kids in need in our community.
