SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • To teach on a range and level of subjects within the Learning, Teaching and Development Unit; with specific responsibility for Initial Teacher Training Higher Education Awardsas agreed with the area management team
  • Day to day Course Leadership and Management of students, learning, assessment, attendance, retention, achievement, success, progression, destinations and contribute to course team meetings; including all aspects of quality and performance improvement, in line with College, HEI and other awarding organisation guidelines, policies and procedures

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Lecturer scale points 19 – 30, principal duties would include:

  • Actively promote and develop innovative learning, assessment and learning and teaching methodologies to suit all individual student needs
  • Actively develop learning materials and ILT materials to support and enhance the students’ learning, attainment, achievement, success and high grades, and assessment of their work
  • Assist with timetabling of course(s) that enhances the student experience
  • To monitor individual students’, groups’ and course(s)’ performance within areaof responsibility; by using all College Management Information. To identify appropriate support for the individual students, groups and/or course(s)
  • Attend regular course team meetings, assessment meetings and IV moderation meetings, including attendance at HEI academic board meetings as and when required
  • Assist with the co-ordination and organisation of work placements
  • Continually develop the curriculum content and provision and, where appropriate, course approval (ensuring that all courses meet appropriate awarding body and national standards)
  • Actively participate in course marketing, recruitment, attendance and retention strategies in line with programme, course, and subject targets
  • Participate in cross-College initiatives and in the design and delivery of CPD activities related to learning, teaching and assessment
  • Recruit with integrity, following the College’s IAG to guide and support students to achieve their full potential
  • Undertake APL assessment, which includes claims for proxies
  • Assist with the annual programme, course review and evaluation
  • Continually embed literacy and numeracy (functional, key and core skills) into curriculum delivery, and identify assessment opportunities
  • Continually embed equality and diversity into curriculum delivery and identify assessment opportunities

Lecturer scale points 26 – 30, principal duties would include:

  • Lead on nominated annual programme, course review and evaluation; and undertake final course and programme reviews and assessments
  • Timetabling of course(s) that enhances the student experience; and, where appropriate, co-ordinate and timetable staff delivering the course(s), subject(s)
  • Continually develop the curriculum content and provision and, where appropriate, course approval (ensuring that all courses meet appropriate HEI and awarding organisation requirements and national standards)
  • Lead a course team and/or a substantial courseand be responsible for all the quality and performanceimprovement arrangements
  • Chair regular course team meetings, assessment meetings and IV moderation meetings
  • Organise and monitor work placements for students

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Monitor students’/trainees’ work and progress reports by appropriate methods; maintain records and produce relevant reports for your area of responsibility, in relation to students
  • Follow College procedures to ensure that all students are enrolled, attend, and are registered with appropriate exam board or awarding organisations, achieve, are supported, that the certificates are claimed for; and, where appropriate, transferred or withdrawn from the programme and all its courses, modules and subjects
  • Participate in student induction, Minimum Levels of Performance(MTG,MLPs) tutorial and review processes, including the completion of records of achievement
  • Responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners
  • Attend parent evenings and recruitment events as required
  • Have available up-to-date syllabuses or course specifications for all classes/courses taught; and maintain/update the Programme/Course Files, ensuring that they are secure and accessible by the team (Schemes of Work, Session Plans, see contents list)
  • Actively participate in the College’s systems for identifying staff development and training needs, and undertake appropriate staff development activities that support professional development and fulfil the corporate objectives of the College
  • Participate in Health and Safety activities, and be prepared to train or retrain as appropriate
  • ImplementCollege policies and procedures, particularly those related to equal opportunities, key skills, additional support and Health and Safety
  • Carry out such duties as may reasonably be allocated, from time to time, by SLT

Essential Criteria
Masters Degree in Education or equivalent professional qualification
Certificate in Education, or equivalent
Assessor awardor willingness to achieve it
Verifier’s or moderator’s award or equivalent; or willingness to achieve it
A minimum of level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy, or equivalent; or willingness to achieve it (unless subject requires a higher level)
Substantial Teaching experience in a FE or HE context
An appreciation of confidentiality and the requirements of the Data Protection Act.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The appointment is subject to Conditions of Service approved by Burton and South Derbyshire College Corporation and derived from the model contracts provided by the Association of Colleges. The College has established ‘Management Guidelines’ which apply to this contract and which are reviewed on a regular basis.

In brief, the conditions include:

Hours of Work37 hours per week

Holiday entitlement35 days,plus statutory Bank Holidays;

and five days during any College ‘shut

down’ period (pro-rata for less than 37 hrs)

The hours of teachingCurrently 864 (up to 900) per annum (full- time post)

PENSION

The appointed candidate is eligible to join the Teacher’s Superannuation Scheme.

MEDICAL CLEARANCE

The appointed will be subject to satisfactory evidence of medical fitness for the post and for admission into the sick pay and superannuation schemes.
