Principal Update

Attendance issues – Serrania is the second worst elementary school in LAUSD with 113 chronic absentee students, which has implications on the amount of funding SCES receives for the following year. Currently, Principal Alvarado has warned parents of these students and may take more serious measures for lottery students, such as removing them from the school to find a closer school to their home. Suggestions for mitigating the high volume of absences was: 1) to include a set of guidelines, and consequences, on chronic absenteeism or tardiness and 2) include the attendance record for each student during parent/teacher conferences to discuss the tardiness/absences and have the teacher review and parent sign that they have been made aware of the consequences if the offenses continue.

New Business:

A.  Budget at a glance:

  1. $8,500 - Lexia Reading Program – teachers were surveyed and they indicated that they wanted to continue on with the subscription. Laurie O’Keefe motioned to approve this purchase and Grant Barbeito seconded the motion.
