Sermon series The Good Ground

Last week: The parable of the sower

This week: You Can’t Get There from Here

We Learned last week that to be good groundwe must receive the word of God into the soil of our life. Act 17:11 – These (the Bereans) were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received theword with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Act 2:41 - Then they that gladly receivedhis word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

I stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon and looked out to the other side. The plack said that the other side was 50 miles away. “I thought”, I’ve been there in the past, but today I can’t Get there from here. There was not a bridge and 50 miles is too far to jump.

You can’t get there from hear

There was no way I could get to heaven from my life of sin I was a stranger to God. I didn’t know him and he didn’t know me. He knew of me, he made me but we had know relationship.

Sometimes we find ourselves in places we believe will never change. I’ll never have a good job, I’ll never have a mate, I’ll never finish school, I’ll never have this or that.

Sometimes it’s bigger than that and we say; how will I ever provide for these needs of my life and family.

Or even bigger; All is gone, there is no hope, we will not survive.

I watch believing people do the strangest thing at times. Rather than taking a studied look at the problem and apply faith in their God to it, even knowingthat all things work together for their good.

  1. We find that without faith we tend to make the ______our biggest problem, then we mourn over it. We think to ourselves don’t you care.

Believing God means taking the risk of faith. To step away from what you once thought in unbelief and counting on God’s word by faith or with belief.

  1. Achieving an attitude of faith in the midst of a ______takes Gods word applied to the test or trial and waiting patiently

2Pe 1:5-10 with diligence, add to your faith virtue; knowledge; temperance; patience; and godliness; brotherly kindness; charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, you will be fruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. And if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.

  1. You can’t achieve Godliness without God and neither can you acquire faith without his______.
