Frederick Town Fife and Drum Receives A $10,000 Donation

From SAR Member George B. Delaplaine Jr.

Pictured with George B. Delaplaine, Jr. are Frederick Town Fife and Drums’ (FTFD) newest members, their parents, FTFD instructors, its staff and members of the Sergeant Lawrence Everhart Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. The musical ensemble gathered for a special practice to thank Delaplaine for honoring the corps with his generous personal gift.

As a lifelong patriot and proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution, who has a great appreciation for music, Mr. Delaplaine captivated the audience by expressing his love of music and relating his experience as a military band member during World War II. He also slipped in an aside, chuckling that although his ancestor, John Thomas Schley, built the first house in Frederick, he was the first person to bring cable television to town.

The Frederick Town Fife and Drum strives to bring to life Frederick’s Revolutionary War History and the events that occurred locally during the formation of our nation. Sponsored by the Sergeant Lawrence Everhart Chapter and its community partners, the FTFD performs at various public and private venues within the city, county and neighboring jurisdictions.

The corps credo “History, Character and Music” reflects its principles and is sponsored and managed by the Sergeant Lawrence Everhart Chapter, Maryland Society Sons of the American Revolution, a not for profit, tax exempt organization. The Corps staff members are volunteer professionals with a passion for the area’s history and Frederick County.

Contributions to the FTFD can be made to the Sergeant Lawrence Everhart Chapter Sons of the American Revolution Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of Frederick County. Checks can be mailed to The Community Foundation, 312 East Church Street, Frederick, MD, 21701 with the fund name noted in the memo line.

Online contributions may be made at www.FrederickCountyGives.org/everhart, or by pressing the “Donate Now” button on the Frederick Town Fife and Drum Face Book page.
