SERENA RYDER TURNS ON “ELECTRIC LOVE”
AWARD-WINNING SINGER/SONGWRITER RELEASES
“ELECTRIC LOVE” EP TODAY
Atlantic recording artist Serena Ryder has released her new EP “ELECTRIC LOVE” today. “ELECTRIC LOVE” is now available at all U.S. digital music retailers and streaming services.
“ELECTRIC LOVE” is preceded by the powerhouse new single/companion video, “Electric Love,” streaming now at www.serenaryder.com The visionary visual had its premiere last month exclusively via People, which hailed both the “kaleidoscopic” clip and “fully charged new single,” further praising “Ryder’s latest soulful, retro-tinged indie-rock”and “distinct, husky vocals.”
In addition, “Electric Love” has drawn applause from Ryder’s fellow musicians, including Tegan and Sara, who recently told fans “one of our favorite Canadian Artists has a new single WE LOVE. Check it out. Think you’ll like it…”
“‘Electric Love’ is a song about feeling the magnetic energy between two people,” says Ryder. “It goes beyond race, religion and sexual identity. Whether you like it or not, the force is out of your control and it’s up to the individuals to decide if they should act on it or not...but I would.”
“ELECTRIC LOVE” is the first new release since 2012’s blockbuster fifth studio album, “HARMONY.” That collection earned the Toronto-based singer/songwriter her greatest popular and critical success to date, including platinum sales certification from Music Canada, the 2013 Juno Award for “Adult Alternative Album of the Year,” and an additional string of top Juno nods including “Album of the Year.”
“HARMONY” was highlighted by the #1 hit single, “Stompa,” which spent eight consecutive weeks topping Triple A radio airplay charts here in the Lower 48 upon its 2013 release. A top 10 smash in Ryder’s home country, “Stompa” earned 3x platinum certification from Music Canada and firmly established the talented tunesmith as an undeniable, multi-platform superstar. Named “Artist of the Year” and “Songwriter of the Year” at the 2014 Juno Awards, Ryder followed “Stompa” with yet another top 10, 2x platinum certified crossover hit single, “What I Wouldn’t Do.”
Among their genre-bridging chart success, Ryder’s songs have also been featured in a truly remarkable quantity of film, TV, and commercial projects spanning Grey’s Anatomy, American Idol, The Voice, Drop Dead Diva, Mob Wives, Suits, and advertising campaigns from Ford, Cadillac, and many others.
Ryder – who won the 2008 Juno Award winner for “Best New Artist of the Year” – first made waves in the US via 2008’s acclaimed “IS IT O.K.” The album proved an ideal introduction to Ryder’s powerful vocal range and distinctive, classically romantic songwriting, earning her still another Juno, this time for “Adult Alternative Album of the Year.” What’s more, the album’s lead single, “Little Bit of Red,” proved Ryder’s first top 10 Triple A success in the US, with its companion video receiving the 2010 Juno for “Video of the Year.”
Ryder’s inventive, jazz/blues-inflected vocals and intimate lyricism has drawn pages upon pages of critical acclaim throughout the past half decade. Interview hailed “HARMONY” as “a collection of soulful pop tunes, with Ryder's husky voice surfing exuberantly over quirky arrangements and overt displays of musicianship,” “Like listening to the teenaged Aretha Franklin,” applauded Elle. “It’s impossible not to be physically shaken when Serena sings.” The New York Post declared, “(Ryder) hits hard with her expressive, quivering vocals, sound lyrics – sometimes tough, sometimes vulnerable – and acoustic guitar.” “The combination of (Ryder’s) powerful vocals and killer guitar playing skills make you feel inspired whenever you listen to any of her songs,” raved Cosmopolitan, summing it up perfectly by simply noting, Serena Ryder “needs to be the newest addition to your iTunes library, like, now.”
Ryder has also proven herself to be a hard-traveling troubadour, with countless headline tours both in her native Canada and around the globe. She has shared stages with such like-minded artists as Melissa Etheridge, Paolo Nutini, Marc Broussard, OneRepublic, Tegan & Sara, NEEDTOBREATHE, and Sara Bareilles, not to mention rapturously received performances at such gatherings as Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Lollapalooza, Toronto’s Luminato Festival, and the 2015 Pan American Games (for which she composed the official theme, “Together We Are One”).
