October News

Boles High School character education program started the year off with a bang! In the first six weeks our students learned about Kindness and how to display acts of kindness. Students are doing a great job throwing around KINDNESS like confetti! BHS will be learning about a character trait each six weeks. The upcoming character traits are humility, self-control, patience, gentleness, and joy. Please help us promote these character traits among our students. The light that SHINES here changes the world!

BHS Class News

Freshman Class News:

New Challenges for the Class of 2020!

We are six weeks into a new school year and the nervousness of the first day is long gone. However, the freshman class at Boles High School continues their transition from middle school into the new demands of high school. Many of the students find high school to be more challenging than previous years because of the amount of work and options available. Learning to balance academic work with the involvement of extracurricular activities is part of the transition that freshmen make.

Of course, it is also one of the most enjoyable aspects of high school. The freshman class appreciates the greater sense of freedom offered in high school. Naturally, there are the expected classes—Algebra 1, English 1, and biology. These are keeping the freshmen busy building skills and learning new information they will eventually apply to their STAAR Tests. However, the freshmen are especially glad to have two elective choices. Many are continuing in band, robotics, art or other areas they began studying in middle school, while others are taking on football, cheer, drill team and other new interests. Additionally, the halls have been full of gesticulating hands for those taking American Sign Language, and repetition of numbers and colors from those in Spanish.

The Boles High School class of 2020 will continue on their high school journey by learning to balance their new freedoms with their new responsibilities. We know these freshmen hornets will make us proud. Shine on!

Sophomore Class News:

The Sophomore class is excited to sponsor the Hornet Basketball Free Throw booth at this year's Fall Festival. To help make our booth a success, we need each Sophomore to bring 2-2 liter bottles of soda or a $5.00 donation to either Mrs. Melton or Mrs. Goggans by Fri. Oct. 21, 2016. We will also need volunteers to help run the booth. Be sure to sign up when you deliver your drink/donation. We only have one fund raiser per year, so we need everyone to participate.

Junior Class News:

Junior Students: PSAT registration begins September 26, 2016. The exam begins at 8:00 a.m. on October, 19th. Please register now in Mrs. Fox's room or through your Junior English teacher by October 11th. This test could qualify you for a National Merit Scholarship.

Senior Class News:

-Senior picture retake is Tuesday October 4, 2016

-Senior Bio needs to be returned to the yearbook (now)

-Senior Meeting October 4, 2016

-Senior Meeting Agenda:

  • Class officer elections
  • T-Shirt selection and order (how to pay for them)
  • Donations for senior party
  • What are we doing for the senior party, date on calendar?

-Scholarship information is available in the hallway outside Mrs. Ozment’s office. Please encourage your son or daughter to apply for the available scholarships.

Graduating Juniors: We need a list of those who are graduating early so we can get the photos in the senior section of the yearbook.
