Welcome back to all pupils, parents and all who work with and for the school. Special welcome to all new comers to the school, both Junior Infants and in other classes. We hope they have a great and productive time in Caragh National School.

PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE

The school organise Personal Accident Insurance through Allianz for all pupils who wish to be part of the scheme. You can avail of school only or 24 hour cover. Parents are urged to consider the scheme carefully. Forms available from office until Sept. 30th

Goal Jersey Day

Caraghschool will host Goal Jersey Day on Friday 16th Sept. Pupils are encouraged to dress in their favourite jersey or t-shirt. The cost is €3 per family or €1 per child. All money collected will go directly to Goal to help work in developing countries.

School Book Bills + Book Grant

All classes have now been supplied with the necessary Rental Books and the response with payments has been very prompt. Book Payments still outstanding may be paid in the school office. Monday – Friday between 9 – 10am. If possible please pay before end of September. Families who need to spread payment over a longer period should make contact with the Principal Mary Dunne.

If you would like to use the online payment system, please use the link sent in June or contact the office to confirm your email details and/or have the link resent

The Dept. of Education and Science has re-introduced the Book Grant which will help with this payment. Requests for consideration under this scheme have been forwarded by some families. If you would like to benefit from this scheme, please contact Mary Dunne also. All requests are confidential. Families eligible to apply are:

a) Families dependent mainly on Social Welfare payments.

b) Families on low incomes from employment.

c) Families with a large number of school going children.

d) Families who are experiencing financial hardships because of particular circumstances in the home.

I Phone chargers – if anybody has old/spare I Phone 4 chargers could they please donate them to the school please as they are needed for I Pads. Thank you.

Credit Unionwill operate a saving scheme in the school every Thursday morning from 9.10 for pupils from 4th/5th + 6th classes This is a great opportunity to encourage children to begin the habit of saving.

We participate in Under 11 Camogie, Hurling and Boys and Girls football during Sept. and Oct. Boys footballers will compete in Div. 1 while all other teams will play in Div. 2 of their respective competitions.

Medical files We are updating our medical files on children who may require medication during the school day. It is the responsibility of parents to notify the office of any change to medicines, contact numbers, administration or procedures. In particular please ensure that medicine is in date.

Attendance

In accordance with the Education Welfare Act. All absences must be explained by a written note, when the child returns to school. The roll call is recorded electronically at 10.30am each morning. Pupils arriving after this time will be recorded as late. It is not possible to record children as present unless they are in school at the time of roll call.

Arrival and Dismissal of Pupils

Thank you to all parents who are co-operating with the traffic arrangements in the morning. Please remember that if you drive into the school yard, you must not leave your car. This is a drive through. For the protection of pupils entering between 9am and 9.10am, the exit gate for cars will not open until 9.10am. Pedestrians should not enter through the gate for vehicles.

Remember parking available in the Community Park at the back of school.

After School Activities

There are many after school activities available in the school. Sports activities are organised by school staff on a voluntary basis. Other activities are organised privately by individuals who are renting the school premises. These activities are covered by the individual operators insurance and child protection policies. Individuals organising these activities are responsible for the collection of their children at 3pm. Collection from after school activities are from the back of the school.

Healthy Eating…

The school operates a healthy eating policy. Sweets/crisps are not allowed in lunches. Drinks should be water or milk. No fizzy drinks allowed and children should bring home all lunch waste.

Barn Dance On behalf of Crumlin Children’s Hospital and RaheensGAA Club, we would like to acknowledge and thank everyone who supported “The Barn Dance” on our farm at Ballysize. The support came in all shapes and sizes, through ticket sales, attendance, organisation and donations. This was a wonderful community event attended by all ages and in a number of cases up to three generations of families attended together. The night was a great success with music playing from 8pm till the early hours and enjoyed by all. Many thanks Brian + Rose Dunne + Family.
