A rare opportunity has arisen within Verdict to head up the Verdict Consulting proposition, focused on driving this business forward whilst undertaking retail-related projects for clients.

The Role

a)Selling of consulting services

Work collaboratively with sales colleagues to secure new business and further develop existing customer relationships. Lead consultative-selling meetings with clients and potential clients as set up or introduced by Verdict sales team in order to understand their requirements and sell them consulting services. Be responsible, on occasion, for initiating contact with potential clients with a view to securing their business.

b)Writing proposals

Write proposals for clients to demonstrate how we are able to meet their requirements via detailing the type of information we will provide, selecting appropriate methodologies and outlining the project approach and programme, together with costs and timescales, to deliver on the client’s needs and to Verdict’s budgetary and resource requirements.

c)Projects

As the Director of the Verdict team, you will shape and lead thinking and strategic recommendations on projects – dependent on the level of the consultant team working on the project – guiding the team to develop the appropriate analyses and output.

You will take on a management role by planning and monitoring all projects for the Verdict team. This involves clearly understanding the requirements of the client, taking ownership of and responsibility for fully satisfying these requirements and planning, monitoring and controlling all aspects of the project. You will also be required to manage project resources (internal and third party) and project finances to ensure delivery within agreed budgets.

You will assist in undertaking appropriate analysis for the broad range of projects the VerdictDivision is assigned. This may include, research, analysis, market sizing, competitive analysis, go to market strategies, demand generation and M&A support and (demand side) ICT strategy, infrastructure review, sourcing strategy and implementation.

d)Presentations

Using existing data and information from a variety of sources you will put together retail presentations which meet project needs. You will also be able to deliver credible presentations to external audiences and answer and address their questions.

Presentations may include other kinds of client-engagement output such as facilitated workshops, ideation sessions, on-site presentations, etc.

e)Wider knowledge

Through internal discussions, liaising and communicating with all Datamonitor departments you will contribute to the company’s knowledge of consumers and Retail markets. Your own knowledge will enhance that of the company’s existing store of analysis. This knowledge may include Innovation, NPD, Retail Trends, Retail Insights and Research, etc. and intersect with retail and finance areas to help bring together and enlarge the overall consulting offering.

f)Administration

You will take on responsibility for some of the day-to-day administration of the division. This may include budgetary analysis, financial administration and resource allocation and planning.

Management and reporting

You will be expected to be fully self-sufficient in your day-to-day work – although guidance and assistance will be provided where required, it is expected that you will be able to work largely unassisted as and when necessary.

You will be responsible for managing and developing the Retail consulting group to grow their thinking and abilities beyond analysis into specific practice areas, as well as sales, presentations, facilitation, etc.

Qualifications and experience

  • Significant experience in consulting ideally advising within the Retail sector
  • External and internal communications-savvy
  • Extensive Project Management experience required
  • Team management experience required
  • Demonstrated presentation skills required
  • Ability to work both independently and in conjunction with significant sales teams
  • Ability to work to, and exceed, sales targets
  • Ability to adapt solutions on-the-fly with clients/prospects
  • Degree level candidate
