SENIOR PTP LESSON 5 (11/1/17)

THEME: C3 Journey

TOPIC: Resume Update

OBJECTIVE: Complete TYPED Resume by Semester 1 (November 29)

DRIVING QUESTION: How does my Resume reflect my skills and abilities?

MATERIALS NEEDED:

●KHIS PTP/C3 Journey Portfolio, including Resume Worksheet or draft resume begun in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade

●PTP Activity Chart and PTP Awards & Achievements work sheets filled out at an earlier date, for reference information

ACTIVITY:

  1. Due date for all items in order to complete the PTP in semester one is November 29 to Advisory teacher. If students are aiming to receive a BOE recognition diploma, they must have all items in to their Advisory teacher by November 29, so that the S grade shows up on their Semester 1 report card.
  2. Have students locate their Resume Worksheet or draft resume in their KHIS PTP/C3 Journey Portfolio.
  3. Ask students if they know what types of background information should be written on a resume. Possible answers: Personal data (name, address, phone number), career goals, values, where they have worked before, where they have studied, extracurricular activities, service, and awards.
  4. Remind students that they may have completed different inventories or tests, to figure out their particular interests, learning style, personality, and other strengths. Students need to know their strengths and show them on their resume.
  5. Remind students that employers and scholarship donors need to see the best side of them, so highlight strengths truthfully, without exaggerating.
  6. Have students review and revise Resume Worksheet or typed Resume using a pencil.
  7. Explain to students that in order to distribute their resume to a potential employer they will need to TYPE the resume and look at it on Print Preview, then print it out.
  8. Remind students that at the end of the semester they will be interviewed by a school official, either an administrator or a counselor and they will want to bringa typed resume included in their KHIS PTP/C3 Journey Portfolio.
  9. Students will take home their revised Resume and TYPE it; returning to you at the next advisory lesson.
