Job Purpose:
To ensure that the Research & Monitoring Unit can continue to supply the best possible evidence available to support the widest possible range of our interests.
Place in Organisation Structure:
The postholder will report to the Senior Evaluation Officer, Research & Monitoring Unit.

Key Responsibilities:
- To support the Evaluation Manager, Senior Evaluation Officers and Evaluation Officers in the delivery of high quality monitoring and evaluation work for a number of key projects
- To support the Director, Evaluation Manager, Senior Evaluation Officers and Evaluation Officers in the delivery of specific elements of delivery relating to key themes identified across the project portfolio
- To liaise with selected partners, sub-contractors and colleagues as necessary to ensure successful project delivery
- To assist in project areas beyond immediate sphere of activity where skills allow and need dictates
Detailed Duties:
- To provide assistance to the Senior Evaluation Officer and Evaluation Officers in the Research & Monitoring Unit on monitoring and evaluation project delivery matters including project set up, data collection, analysis, reporting, internal liaison and external communication.
- To support all monitoring and evaluation requirements of Sustrans’ projects.
- To undertake any data processing as well as statistical and analysis work in the appropriate project areas as assigned.
- To help with compilation of appropriate academic and other secondary evidence in the specified project area.
- To support and undertake the writing of accurate and adequate reporting of all relevant project and organisational findings.
- To support liaison with external partners and help manage external contracts as and when needed.
- To work closely with the other Evaluation Assistants, Evaluation Officers, Senior Evaluation Officers and Evaluation Manager on common themes and projects.
- To undertake other such duties appropriate to the grade and the post and capabilities of the post holder as may on occasions be directed by the management group or line manager.
- To support and comply with the organisation's policy for the management of Health and Safety.
- To work in accordance with the arrangements described in the organisation's health and safety management system including any project or department specific requirements.
Working Conditions:
This role will be based at our Newcastle, Bristol or Edinburgh office. Occasional overnight stays away from home may be necessary.

Personal specification:
Criteria / EssentialQualifications, education and training / Either to degree level in a relevant subject,or previous experience in a related field
Experience / A track record ofdata analysis and reporting
A track record of good quality report writing
Experience or qualification in applied research methods
Skills and abilities / Good analytical skills in quantitative and/or qualitative data collation and analysis
Good communications skills (general, written, verbal)
Good numerical skills
Ability to contribute to the production of accurate reports (with regards to language, numerical and referred/cited content/evidence)
Ability to be well organised
Ability to work in and with a team
Knowledge / Knowledge of different survey and interview delivery methods
Understanding of and interest in different transport mode capture mechanisms
An interest in and excellent understanding of contemporary transport issues
Excellent working knowledge of MS Office

Criteria / Desirable
Qualification: / Educated to degree level or equivalent in a related field
Training and/or qualification (formally or through extensive experience) to undertake statistical calculations using statistical computer software (Excel equivalent to Level 3, R, or other programmes)
Experience / A track record of successful working with colleagues and external partners
Working in/studies relevant to local transport monitoring
Experience with evaluation of active travel and physical activity behaviour and changes within it
Experience with analysing physical activity and active travel data
Skills and abilities / Ability plan and prioritise own workload
Knowledge / An understanding of local transport planning
An understanding of non-motorised traffic monitoring tools and methods
Knowledge of physical activity and active travel evaluation tools
Knowledge of the links between health and transport agendas
Knowledge of self-reported as well as objective tools for monitoring and evaluation of physical activity and active travel
Other / An interest in cycling and walking
