CLASS of 2012

SAT/ACT

  1. Registration for the October 1st SAT closes on Friday, September 9th. Late registration closes September 21st
  2. The College Board strongly requests that you register on line at . However, if you register by mail makesure to have your registration envelope and check postmarked by that date. Mt. St. Joseph will not be a test center for the October exam. Registration for the November5thSAT closes onOctober 7th. Late registration closes on October 21st. Forms are available in the Main Guidance Center. Mount St. Joseph is a test center for November 5th.

ACT registration for the October 22ndtest closes on September 16th. Late registration closes September 30th.

PREP CLASSES-SAT/ACT

2. The SAT Prep Classes for math and critical reading are scheduled to begin September 12th. Classes meet at 7:15 a.m. and finish 7:55 a.m. The sessions are in preparation for the October 1stand November 5thtests. The cost is $100.00. COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

3. APPLICATIONS:

September is when you should be contacting colleges to request applications and admissions information. DO NOT PUT THIS OFF as this is a busy season for the colleges.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation request forms are to be given to the person who will be writing a letter of recommendation on your behalf. The forms are located in the Guidance Office. DO NOT PUT THIS OFF as the letters of recommendation should be completed before the application deadline schedule (see below).

4. Seniors: Please be aware of the following due dates regarding your college applications i.e. if your application is due to the college 11/1/2011, you need to submit a transcript request form to Mrs. Mnkande no later than 10/3/2011 in order to guarantee the college will receive the information by 11/1/2011. Over 1000 packets will be processed.

TRANSCRIPTS

5. TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS:

In order to facilitate your college application process, it is best for you to follow these procedures:

--fill out all sections of the college application that ask you or your parents for information, making certain that you do so neatly and legibly;(make a copy for your records)

--if applying using a paper copy bring the completed application to Mrs. Mnkande, if applying online bring a receipt to Mrs. Mnkande. Make sure that you have included a check for the application fee if applying using a paper copy;

--along with the completed application, bring any parts of the application which your Mount Saint Joseph counselor needs to fill out; this would include completed teacher recommendations, counselor recommendations, and secondary school report forms;

--fill out transcript request in its entirety and standardized test scores release forms, forms are located at Mrs. Mnkande’s desk in the Guidance Centerand on the MSJ website.

--many colleges encourage you to file on line. If you do file online, be sure to print any forms that need to be completed by MSJ. Print a copy of the your application confirmation and submit it to Mrs. Mnkande.

YOUR FIRST TRANSCRIPT IS FREE OF CHARGE; EACH ONE AFTER THAT CARRIES A FEE OF $2.00, PAYABLE UPON REQUEST.

6. COLLEGE VISITATION:

Seniors are allowed two (2) days excused absence to visit colleges and universities outside of the Baltimore metropolitan area with the approval of the Director of Students and their school counselor, provided the following guidelines are met:

-The student must have a good attendance record.

-The student must be in good academic standing.

-Seniors are eligible until the end of the first semester of their senior year. Any exceptions are with the approval of the Director of Students only.

-At least one week prior to the visitation date, the student must complete a form from the Guidance Office requesting the visitation. This form must be signed by the student, his parents, and his school counselor and submitted to the Director of Students for approval.

-When the student returns to classes after a college visit, he is required to follow the normal attendance procedures, as well as providing documentation from the college he visited (usually from the Admissions Office).

-No student may attend local college fairs during the school day when the fair has scheduled evening hours.

7. COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE VISITS:

The policy is that you are welcome to attend a college representative's presentation IF YOU ARE NOT SCHEDULED FOR CLASS AT THE TIME OF THE PRESENTATION. If you are scheduled to be in a class and you would like to attend the presentation, you mustobtain a permission slip from the Guidance Office THE DAYBEFORE the college presentation. This must be signed by the teacher or teachers of the class or classes you will be missing. Return the signed permission slip to

Mrs. Mnkande before classes begin on the morning of the college presentation. You must also sign an attendance sheet when the representative arrives.

8.Towson University Instant Decision Day:

A representative from Towson University will come to Mt. St. Joseph on Thursday, November 10th for an Instant Decision Day. The Towson representative will issue an admission decision on November 10th provided the steps below are completed. In order to participate in this process you must:

  1. Complete your application online no later than Thursday, October 20th. The Common Application, Universal Application or Towson University Application may be used.
  2. After completing and submitting the online application you will receive a confirmation. BRING A COPY OF YOUR CONFIRMATION TO MRS. MNKANDE BY OCTOBER 20TH
  3. Bring a copy of your SAT and/or ACT test scores printed from the testing agency’s website to Mrs. Mnkande by Thursday, October 20th.
  4. You must have your official test scores sent directly to Towson University, SAT scores sent from the College Board and ACT scores sent from ACT Inc. Towson’s SAT code is 5404 and the ACT code is 1718.
  5. Students must provide an admissions essay to Mrs. Mnkande no later than Thursday, October 20th.
  6. Each participate will be required to meet with the Towson representative for a 10-15 minute interview on the Thursday, November 10th.
