Job Title:Senior Fundraising Officer – Major Gifts (job share, part-time)
Contract:Permanent, job share, part-time: 3 days (21hours)
Reporting to:Director of Fundraising & Communications

Salary:£34,504 pro rata 21 hours (3 days) (£20,702), starting salary, rising on an annual incremental basis to £36,264 (£21,758), plus 6% non-contributory employer’s pension

Holidays:27 days’ annual leave, including four days over the Christmas period; rising to 29 days after three years’ service and 30 days after five years (pro rata)

Hours:21 hours (3 days) per week.Some weekend and out of hours working is essential, for which time off in lieu will be given.

Based at:War on Want’s head office: 44-48 Shepherdess Walk, LondonN1 7JP. Some travel within the UK and overseas may be required.

JOB DESCRIPTION

War on Want is a dynamic, radical organisation fighting against the root causes of poverty and oppression, as part of the worldwide movement for global justice. We work in active solidarity with grassroots social movements around the world while undertaking cutting-edge campaigns in the UK and beyond. We run overseas programmes with partners on the ground as well as work with UK allies,raising restricted and unrestricted funding to achieve our shared goals.

This is an exciting time to join the Fundraising team at War on Want as the organisation has been delivering on ambitious targets from its recent investment in fundraising. This role forms part of a new job share working alongside an experienced Senior Fundraising Officer who has been undertaking the role full time and who has reduced to 21 hours.

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser to help take our trusts & foundations and major donor fundraising to the next level.

You will be responsible for growing War on Want’s income by securing new grants from trusts & foundations, researching and cultivating major donors and maximising income from existing relationships. As a member of the Fundraising team you will be responsible for packaging War on Want’s work, developing funding proposals, building relationships with trusts & foundations, working with the Database Officer to utilise War on Want’s existing database, building major donor profilesand working with the Senior Management Team to cultivate and secure major donor relationships. Main areas of responsibility, shared jointly with the other half of the post :

Maximising income from trusts & foundations

  • Lead on the development and implementation of the trusts & foundations strategy, including planning, research, writing funding proposals and reporting
  • Lead on researching and identifying new sources of trust & foundation income
  • Work with the Campaigns and Programmes teams to package War on Want’s thematic work and to write bespoke funding applications that are compelling and engaging
  • Build productive relationships with new and existing trusts & foundations and grow the level of funding from this income stream
  • Report against income and expenditure budgets, while working towards agreed targets

Major donor recruitment and retention

  • Lead onthe developmentand implementation of the major donors strategy, including cases for support, prospect research, funding proposals, engagement and donor recognition opportunities
  • Build strongrelationships with War on Want’s existing and potential major donors and work with the Fundraising Director and other members of the Senior Management Team to ensure the most effective approaches are made to secure funds
  • Manage major donor research and use research profiles to develop and implement successful engagement, cultivation and solicitation plans for a portfolio of existing donors and prospects
  • Maintain written and electronic records of all major donor contacts
  • Report against income and expenditure budgets, while working towards agreed targets

General duties

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of War on Want’s fundraising strategy, in conjunction with other members of the Fundraising team
  • Support the Director of Fundraising & Communications in the development of annual work plans, including the development of key performance indicators
  • All other duties as required by the Director of Fundraising & Communicationsand commensurate with the post
  • Stay upto date with current fundraising trends and identify potential future activities
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
  • A minimum of two years’cumulative experience of fundraising from major gift sources, such as trusts & foundations, major donorsor corporations
  • Proven experience of building long-term effective relationshipswith donors
  • Proven experience of developing compelling funding proposals and donor feedback reports
  • Excellent written and oral communication skillsand an inspiring communication style, with exceptional listening and influencing skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a broad range of individuals and as part of a team
  • Highly self-motivated and proactive, with strong time management, self-administration and organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or similar donor management database
  • A strong commitment to the aims and objectives of War on Want
  • Experience of organising donor cultivation events
  • Knowledge of the international development movement and relevant issues
  • Degree level qualification, or equivalent
