Primary Objectives of Position / 1.Efficiently manage the human, physical and financial resources within the approved budgets and program profile of the Language Centre in consultation with the Manager.
2.Provide academic leadership in managing the curriculum requirements of the Centre, including new and proposed courses.
3.Initiate and implement strategies for the development and marketing of existing and new programs in consultation with the Manager, Holmesglen Language Centre.
4.Ensure compliance with the Holmesglen Management System and the requirements of relevant external bodies.
5.Establish and maintain a safe work environment that is compliant with Holmesglen OH&S policies and procedures for the Centre.

  • Senior Educators in the Holmesglen Language Centre

Internal Communication Requirements /
  • Establish and maintain effective lines of communication with the Centre’s Senior Educators, teaching staff and support staff.
  • Maintain with the Manager, effective lines of communication with staff in other teaching departments and the Institute support services.

External Communication Requirements /
  • Liaise with external clients as required by the Manager, Language Centre.
  • Liaise with the community, industry organisations, professional associations and higher education sector (where applicable) to promote the interests of the Centre and the Institute.

Specific Accountabilities / 1.Provide educational leadership.
2.Provide on-going planning for the Centre.
3.Promote teaching and learning excellence through innovative delivery and assessment strategies.
4.Initiate new programs to meet industry and community needs.
5.Under the direction of the Manager, assist with the preparation of the annual program profile, including staffing schedule, annual salary and non-salary items for budget submission.
6.Initiate, develop and manage the delivery of non-recurrent fee for service programs in the Centre.
7.Effectively and efficiently manage the human, financial and physical resources of the Centre.
8.Prepare statistical data and reports as required by the Manager.
9.Ensure that the Centre’s component of the Institute Course Register is accurate and current.
10.Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of class and teacher timetables.
11.Ensure coordinated student selection and enrolment processes and timely resulting, is in place.
12.Promote and effect change in delivery and assessment providing a more innovative and engaging student experience.
13.Ensure that the course evaluation requirements of the Institute are undertaken in a timely and effective manner.
14.Ensure that the Centre is compliant with all Holmesglen Management System processes.
15.Participate in internal and external audits (as an auditor or auditee) as required.
16.Prepare a Work/Staff Development Plan for each teaching staff member and review the Plan with each teaching staff member biannually, in consultation with the Manager.
17.Ensure currency of industry knowledge and trends is maintained by all Centre teaching staff.
18.In association with the Manager, and in line with the Institute’s Strategic Plan, prepare Key Result Areas for the position. Meet with the Manager on a biannual basis to discuss the progress towards meeting the objectives.
19.Act in accordance with Holmesglen Safety policies and procedures to ensure the Centre is compliant with OH&S legislation.
20.Establish and maintain a work environment which is free from discrimination, bullying and harassment in accordance with Institute rules and policies.
21.Any other duties as directed and required by the Manager.
Qualifications /
  • Relevant Degree and postgraduate qualification and experience,
  • An approved teaching qualification.

Knowledge /
  • Knowledge of the English language training sector, the courses and Community partnerships arrangement therein
  • Knowledge of the vocational education and training system.
  • An understanding of current issues in VET and Higher Education.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the standards for RTO’s.
  • Knowledge of policies and practices relating to Equal Opportunity (EO), Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), bullying, harassment and privacy legislation.

Experience /
  • Substantial teaching experience within language programs.
  • Relevant experience in the vocational education and training or higher education
  • Management and leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the:
Development and management of staff, resources and facilities.
Provision of advice to the community and industry.
Development and implementation of administrative procedures.
  • Development, implementation and co-ordination of an educational program.

Skills /
  • Ability to effectively plan and implement new teaching programs and delivery strategies.

7.An understanding of Financial, OHS, Equal Opportunity and Workplace Relations issues.
